Just brilliant, this #lapwingplot turned #arableflora heaven and #skylark playground. Any farmer can do this with the right will, advice and financial support. #FarmingwithNature

Not much can beat the sudden appearance of the mysterious #quail during an early morning bird survey for @PARTRIDGE_NSR. This singing male took residence in a #lapwingplot turned poppy/fumatory/cereal plot. I shall call it quail plot from now on! @RotherfieldPark

This #lapwingplot may not have any #Lapwing, but it's fantastic for an entirely different reason: having cultivated the plot in late November last year has turned it into a purple sea of #commonfumitory, taking arable flora conservation to another level. #skylark also love it.

A #lapwingplot placed at the right location can drastically improve the breeding success of #lapwings. In this example from England, 10 pairs are currently nesting on a 1-ha plot surrounded by rape.

#Lapwingplot in July, serving as magnificent #skylark #bee #bumblebee and #arableflora plot instead. #commonpoppy #commonfumitory @RotherfieldPark @PARTRIDGE_NSR @FarmWildlifeUK @JanetHughes @ArielBrunner

Sound on for this recording of singing #skylarks at one of our demo sites. In the centre you see a #beetlebank with a newly sown #PARTRIDGEflowermix next to it. Next to that there is #winterbarley with a #lapwingplot in the middle, to the right a field of #peas. @farmerjoedwards

In time for #BeesNeedsWeek our #PARTRIDGE_NSR #pollenandnectarmix and #marginmix planted #Rotherfield last year look perfect. Plots are teaming with honeybee, wild bees, bumble bees and butterflies. Also our new #Lapwingplot has turned into bee heaven.

It all depends on the eyes of the beholder. This farmer loves his lapwings and left them this spot in the field. @PARTRIDGE_NSR #lapwing #lapwingplot

1-ha #lapwingplot update from England: Three pairs hatched four chicks each as of today, with another 7 females still sitting on eggs. So far so good 🤞@RyanABurrell is following them as part of his #PhD.

'You can only preserve/conserve what you love'. In this case, the passion for #arableflora led the farmer of this #lapwingplot turn it into an annual wonderland by late June. The wild #cornflowers are particularly exciting among the sea of poppies. Cholderton, Wilts, England.

A #lapwingplot is not only good for #lapwing. I think this photo by @amelia_corvin captures this rather beautifully. Seen @RotherfieldPark during @PARTRIDGE_NSR bird survey.

I'm very lucky to live within eyesight of a #lapwingplot. I persuaded the farmer to put it there many years ago. Six-ten pairs nest there every year! Twenty returned to it on the 4th of Feb. Today, I found one plucked behind my garden. Probably a #peregrine got the better of it.

We've got this wonderful #lapwingplot just a stone throw from our house. When lying in bed at night, window open, I hear the lapwings calling. Just now also the #barnowl! Isn't that absolutely amazing in this day & age? Thank u @RotherfieldPark @farmerjoedwards @NaturalEngland

#Lapwing are arguably one of the most charming #farmlandbirds. Sadly, they are in big trouble across Western Europe. I am incredibly privileged to overlook a 1-ha #lapwingplot directly from my bedroom window, from where I often hear their pee-wit call in the middle of the night.

I find this really remarkable: ringed as a chick 5 years ago and now it is raising its own young on the very same #lapwingplot (probably ever since). It doesn't get more site faithful, does it! Even better, this plot is directly behind my house. Bird behaviour is just fabulous.
This lapwing was tagged as part of our new Fallow Plot study. It was a retrap, ringed as a chick by @RyanABurrell during his PhD on lapwing back in 2019, on the same plot. The data will help us improve arable nesting lapwing options as part of this @NaturalEngland funded study.

1-ha #lapwingplot update from England: Of the 10 nesting pairs, 8 have successfuly hatched broods, two lost their clutch to predation and are now re-nesting off the plot. Hatched broods overall doing well despite some chick predation events observed. Footage below from same plot.
Many #waders including #Lapwing rapidly remove egg shell from their nests during hatching. This helps maintain nest camouflage and is just one of a suite of behaviours adapted to help chicks survive #ornithology #FarmlandBiodiversity @_BTO @britishbirds @WaderStudy
