Neonatologist-performed ultrasound is unique for the management of premature babies in Japan. At our NICU, echocardiography and head ultrasound were performed for 22 weekers 1-3 times per day within the first 3 days and once a day from day 4 to day 7. #DELPHI2023

Echocardiographic parameters are mainly related to PDA. In some NICUs, indexes of cardiac afterload are measured to determine the use of vasodilators. We use mainly dopamine and dobutamine as vasopressors at our NICU. #DELPHI2023

At our NICU, all 22-weekers were intubated and mechanically ventilated, and the respiratory mode is often changed from CMV to HFOV around day 4 after decreasing the risk of IVH. In other Japanese NICUs, premature infants are managed in the same way. #DELPHI2023
