I finally temped the Heil HPS-5 into the 7300 after purchasing it several weeks ago. Excellent foam-surrounded packaging. Dialed up WWVB on 5Mhz and 10Mhz--really clear sound. Dialed up some AM stations and WOW--better than my Onkyo TV/media set-up!

@jgrahamc I wonder if the ~11-year solar flare cycles affect WWVB's signal propagation. We're entering a maximum solar spots cycle.

A colleague has been struggling with a @NIST #WWVB clock, it would not sync no matter what or where. I took it home and put it on the bench to mess with it. here it is 30 minutes later! The threat of disassembly apparently scared it into working!

Thinking about that time Trump idiotically wanted to cut funding to WWV, WWVH, and WWVB in 2019 which would have caused the bricking of millions of radio synchronized “atomic” clocks, cameras, irrigation controllers, watches, etc. Thankfully, Congress preserved funding.

What a throwback. I can't believe @Casio_USA still makes the Men's WV58A-1AVCR Waveceptor Atomic Sport Watch. It helped me keep time as young teen. I was fascinated when it would receive a signal from from @NIST Radio Station WWVB in Colorado as I was in Florida.

Culture aside, I love how the 90s were recent enough that you could have a WWVB-synced atomic clock watch on your wrist or could cram 8 tracks of audio onto a cassette with a track of MIDI timecode sync data, but it wasn't so new that everything was just sterile and digital.
