My initial design was that I suballocate placement heaps and create one Metal buffer/texture object per suballocation. But this causes internal allocs/frees for the buffers. So instead I will create 1 buffer per heap (128MB) and use offsets for binding. Faster create/destroy.

You can pack position stream + other stream in the same buffer, but you can't use bind offset = 0 for both. Mesh data suballocation requires manual effort. Automatic sub-allocation can't keep the streams relative to each other to allow using a single baseVertex.
