#Saltmarshes provide homes, permanent & temporary, for many species of #wildlife. A Shore Crab sheltering in a patch of Common Saltmarsh-grass after being washed in on the tide. We need many more saltmarshes for wildlife, carbon storage & flood protection. #SaltmarshCode

6. Over the past couple of decades we have started to reverse rhe trend and #ManagedRealignments are ⬆️ the extent of #saltmarsh, helping to offset losses. But we need to move faster & remove the barriers to restoration. Hopefully the #SaltmarshCode will be a big step forwards.

3. #Saltmarshes around the world are threatened by #SeaLevelRise. Some marshes are better placed to withstand this than others, where sediment is plentiful & marshes can grow upwards, or the rare examples where there is space to migrate inland. #ClimateCrisis.#SaltmarshCode

2. Perched #saltmarsh is pretty much impossible to recreate but some could no doubt be protected from #RecreationalDisturbamce. Many other types of saltmarsh can however be created, particularly where past losses have occurred . #SaltmarshCode .@UK_CEH

3. This magnificent managed realignment site on the Ribble Estuary restored c340ha of #saltmarsh #PriorityHabitat that was "reclaimed" from the estuary in the 1980's. We now need many more Heskeths. @RSPB_Ribble @RSPBEngland .@EnvAgency @DefraGovUK .#SaltmarshCode
