Somehow, I need to find time to get into at least a little bit of #Jruby 10 later today. Good thing that I already have Java 21 on my computer. #Ruby #RubyOnWindows #Programming

Even though it's not listed on the home page yet, RubyInstallers for versions 3.4.5-1, 3.3.9-1, 3.2.9-1 are not available for #Windows. . #Programming #Ruby #RubyOnWindows.

Finally, started with installing #JRuby 10 & running Hello World before trying other things in the next few weeks. If you've wanted to experiment, here's a simple illustrated guide to get it running and the first steps:.. #Ruby #Programming #RubyOnWindows

#Rails 7.1 is out! I always like to check if it still works on #Windows. Thanks to the stellar work by the @rails, @rubylangorg. & @jruby teams, Rails 7.1 works fine on #Ruby 3.2 on Windows. Btw, this post also resulted in 1 issue & 1PR. #RubyOnWindows

@andatki What is the exact problem/ concern?.Rails mostly works. For PG, somehow, this is the most popular post on my blog: I've been meaning to write one for a newer version. I'm happy to try to help (no book needed) cos I still use #RubyOnWindows.

@yet_anotherDev Since #RubyOnWindows is less talked about, I will just leave there that pik works quite well for my needs:

@theloyaltouch That said, installing Ruby on Windows is quite easy and fast. Also, native gems work almost perfectly. #RubyOnWindows.

@GregMolnar thanks for doing this. I know that Ruby is at 3.2 but I like to use 3.1 as the oldest version that I play with and then use 3.2 to see if it all works. As for slowness, very likely, it's because I'm running #RubyOnWindows - but was just surprised how fast 1.9 started up!.

I recently worked in #Rails 7.2.a using #Ruby 3.3 on regular #Windows, and some slowness aside, everything worked absolutely fine for my needs. Thanks for doing such a great job: Rails, Ruby, #RubyonWindows, RubyGems, SQLite3 & Puma teams. (regular windows = no docker, no WSL2).

Thanks to the #RubyInstaller team, #Ruby 3.3 is already available on Windows. My illustrated guide to installing and running #RubyOnWindows is updated and available at: #programming.

@armiiller There is a native Windows environment and that works perfectly. Ruby installs and does almost everything except stuff that's specifically built for *nix-style systems. Rails 7.1 runs fine on Ruby 3.x, the databases run fine. I wish more people were aware of it. #RubyOnWindows.

@dhh @samcraigjohnson I'd recommend it for Ruby (I do a lot with #RubyOnWindows) & do file the occasional Rails inconsistency on Windows (incl. 1 more coming soon) but yes, I'd develop Rails on Windows, but not deploy. Ruby on Windows is slower than others (due to file I/O) but still very good!.

I recently published the illustrated guide to installing #JRuby on #Windows using JRuby 9.4.6.0 but all the steps will apply to 9.4.7 as well:. Also if you're wondering why JRuby, see: #programming #Ruby #RubyonWindows.

JRuby 9.4.7.0 is released! This time we’ve fixed a bunch of language edge cases and made many quality-of-life improvements across the board. Upgrading is recommended!.

@k0kubun @rafael_falco #RubyOnWindows 😔 but every new Ruby makes other things faster also usually, so there is that!.

@k0kubun @prioninae Sadly, RubyOnWindows doesn't yet support YJIT 😔.

Having problems with #Jekyll on #Windows with errors such as failing to build ffi? Check if you have spaces in the installation path for #Ruby. That usually causes problems. Install Ruby to something like `c:\ruby32-x64` & it should work. #RubyOnWindows.

@alexanderadam__ @helvetic_ruby I hope that there is a video. I would love to watch that. I know that #RubyOnWindows has a reputation to be difficult but for most part, it just works. It is slower, there is no YJIT but for many applications, it works fine since Ruby 2.4 when the RubyInstaller changed.
