When HMCI uses the word ‘scandal’ in a Press conference, he is either doing so knowing the spin journalists will put on this to blame teachers or he is unaware that they will do so. Either way, it was very ill-advised. We should expect a measured approach to this complex issue.

Whilst some of us are willing to give the new HMCI the benefit of the doubt & rein in the anti-Ofsted rhetoric, the old HMCI is still quite happy stirring things up. My biggest fear has always been the lack of self-awareness/empathy from minority of inspectors who can (and do)
