As an #ethNLP case study, this one is interesting, because there is less (but not no) automation between the data and the insufficiently contextualized interpretation of it. So I think it might make a good model to understand what's going on with the application of lg models. >>

Students in my #ethNLP class today noticed that there seems to be a higher than average prevalence of titles with click-baity or cute metaphors in the section on bias. Have others noticed the same? Any ideas as to why? https://t.co/M66oYNQHmw

Tune in for lots of @mmitchell_ai awesomeness, including a brilliant discussion of the relative merits of "fractal problem" vs. "infinite onion" as descriptions of the space we work in. #ethNLP #ethicalAI
"I think it's important to realize that technology is not apolitical." @mmitchell_ai has spent years forcefully advocating for more inclusive—and, as a result, more robust—AI research. On the TDS podcast, she discusses the challenges of tackling bias.

I ask the @emnlp2020 organizers to step in and stop workshops from allowing papers that encode people's sensitive information without their consent and in most cases in violation of @twitter's terms of service. #ethNLP #AIEthics
Work in #NLProc & want to help instead of hitting refresh on election news? Reminder we're in the worst pandemic in living memory & it violates @twitter's terms of service to encode people's health. When reviewing papers, reject violators on ethical grounds #ethNLP #ethicalAI

Excited that the paper on "Building Representative Corpora from Illiterate Communities: A Review of Challenges and Mitigation Strategies for Developing Countries" with @alycialeonard @stanzeconforti @Jtumwesige has been accepted @eaclmeeting #ethnlp #bias #NLP #AI #eacl2021
Most "best practices" to build NLP corpora implicitly assume speakers *literacy* and *internet access*. But this leaves out millions of people, especially when considering rural areas in developing countries!
