So impressed by the hard work of future computer scientists on display at the @Team_MCES STEM Night. Robots made using @birdbraintech, mice programmed to navigate mazes, @Ozobot illustrating pollination & map navigation, and @makeymakey instruments! #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS

So excited to finally visit @HoneygoElem and their new #bcps_csi program! Saw 1st 2nd and 3rd grade Ss using @ScratchJr to extend a story with algorithms, events, and parallelism. They practiced persistence, problem solving, and debugging!

Loved seeing & hearing 2nd grade future computer scientists at @BCPSHES use @ScratchJr Message blocks to illustrate how computers encode & decode information. “The code is data” & “The computer is processing [the data].” I also got to see a chick hatch! #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS

These kindergarten future coders at @Campfield_ELC were so excited to make their own mazes for Colby and Jack and then write an algorithm to get him to the cheese! They got lots of practice learning how to work in partners. #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS

Loved seeing Ss at @OliverBeachElem using barcodes to program @MeetEdison bots to follow a light, avoid obstacles, and play bumper cars! Overheard: “it didn’t avoid it because it’s clear and can’t see it.” Thanks @OBES_LIB for teaching #bcps_csi and Computational Thinking.

1st graders at @ChadwickElem are using @ScratchJr to illustrate a story sequence. Today they typed text & illustrated the settings using clip art & paint features. Next time they will add a photo of a place in their school building & begin coding! #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS

3rd grade future computer scientists at @SparksES_BCPS are programming in partners and learning how to use Parallelism and Multiple Events to make their @scratch sprites move in their stories. #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS

Also at @SparksES_BCPS today, second grade future computer scientists looked for patterns and used loops to make their programs more efficient. One rockstar figured out an efficiency that was even better than the @codeorg goal of 10 blocks! #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS

Why were second graders at @CatonsvilleES stacking plastic cups? Because these future computer scientists were using symbols & sequences to write algorithms that their “robot” friends could execute successfully. I loved hearing them debug their code. #bcps_csi @CTE_BaltCoPS

PreK computer scientists at @HawthorneES learned about Rosa Parks and then used algorithms to make Colby the mouse act out her bus boycott. Future computer engineers in 3rd grade used Makey Makey hardware to control different software. #BCPS_CSI @CTE_BaltCoPS

5th grade future computer scientists programmed LED lights to show the apparent magnitude of stars in different constellations. Thanks @CatonsvilleES for letting me be a teaching partner this week! @CTE_BaltCoPS #bcps_csi @BCPSSci

I actually did a few of these during the proposal & research phases of my dissertation on Divine Worship: The Missal Lots of BCPs, Anglican Missals, Roman Missals & the Pastoral Provision’s Book of Divine Worship, linked with lines that looked like an episode of CSI
