Heartstopper season 3 is wonderful, but what is utterly grim is the lack of gravy on ANY of the roast dinners shown…why are these people eating dry chicken and potatoes?! #HeartstopperS3

Wouldn’t it be nice if winter just ‘ended’ after new years? I’m ready for some hot, sunny days now.

I ended the year with the lovely and heartwarming ‘Claus: A Musical Adventure’ Directing it on it’s Swiss tour. A wonderful family show about how the man became the legend. It was a pleasure to work on, with a brilliant cast and creative team.

In November I had a brief stint as DSM for ‘Breathing Corpses/Gloria’ another set of short plays directed by @EmilyLouizou covering a gap before the actual DSM could start. It was great to see the play when it opened, and note how far it had come since I saw it in rehearsals!

Then in a strange tangent, I spent almost a month in a field as a creative consultant for The Cardiff Pumpkin Festival and Scarefest, helping it get up and running for it’s first year, doing everything from building a maze to being a dramaturg for the scares.

Then in September it was back to DSMing on ‘Image Of An Unknown Young Woman/So Here We Are’ a double bill of short plays directed by the great @joshHparr - two very different productions, which the added challenge of sharing a set

Over the summer I worked with Jessica again, Co-Directing and workshopping an as yet unannounced piece of new writing at @ThePleasance - which was a lot of fun, and an insight into how to develop new writing in the early stages

Immediately after that, I had the opportunity to Associate Direct alongside the wonderful @_jessicalazar on the ArtsEd MA production of ‘King Charles III’ a (now) alternate universe play by Mike Bartlett about what would happen if Charles became King.

Then in April I put my DSM hat on for a piece of new writing. ‘Babel’ was a an allegory based largely on the Grenfell tower disaster, but mostly focusing on political unrest, and how easily someone can turn towards extremism when they are cut off from their support.

Alongside that, I was also Directing two singing projects with the ArtsEd 1st and 2nd years. In the former, helping to put together a piece made up of songs chosen for the students, and in the latter, one with songs the students chose themselves, based on a concept they provided.

First off, was Godspell, a youth theatre musical I directed and choreographed in Zurich. It’s a difficult show to pull off, being mostly made of up parables will only a little plot in the 2nd Act, but I was really pleased with the result, and the hard work of the cast and team.
