NASA should apply the CLPS mindset of low-cost, fast-turnaround, commercial partnerships not just to lunar landers, but also to science missions and instruments. Iteration and risk tolerance accelerate lunar access—let's do the same for payloads. Thoughts? https://t.co/Q2vXmCisVB

Over 200 JPLers have lost everything. Every single project I work on includes at least one, most multiple. Everyone at JPL is affected, everyone is utterly heartbroken for our community. Ways you can help:

This team is unstoppable! Firefly was awarded another NASA CLPS task order for a third lunar mission in 2028. This time we'll utilize our Blue Ghost lander, Elytra Dark orbital vehicle, and a rover to investigate the unexplored Gruithuisen Domes.

Pew, pew, pew! Do you see those five white circles on the rock? They’re laser blasts! Last month, I zapped what might be another pure sulfur rock with my ChemCam instrument. It’ll analyze the elemental composition and could give us more clues into how the pure sulfur formed.

Wow, diffusion models (used in AI image generation) are also game engines - a type of world simulation. By predicting the next frame of the classic shooter DOOM, you get a playable game at 20 fps without any underlying real game engine. This video is from the diffusion model.

What is a proton made of? Early scattering experiments probing the substructure of the proton found an interesting result. Instead of being made just from point-like particles (quarks), there seemed to be more going on inside the proton A🧵1/6

My 12-year landiversary is a few days away 🎉 From finding evidence Mars once had habitable environments to discovering rocks made of pure sulfur, I’ve done a lot since landing here in 2012. Do you have any favorite moments of my journey?

In science, just like in politics, it takes courage and integrity to do what you think is the right thing despite what it might mean for you personally. Power and authority are real. What you do with it and how you help others matters the most.

*Cronch* I ran over a rock and found crystals inside! It's pure sulfur. (And no, it doesn’t smell.) Elemental sulfur is something we’ve never seen before on Mars. We don't know much about these yellow crystals yet, but my team is excited to investigate. https://t.co/Am07DuXpPX

A fantastic line of inquiry and fun to read the responses. While I’m a supporter of Moon and Mars exploration, I also think it’s important for planetary scientists and space explorers to be aware of the alternatives. This can only help strengthen their “why”.

Honest question: why do we expect cities on Mars or the Moon before there are cities in Antarctica? The latter is much cheaper and easier in every way; what is it about Mars and the Moon that make the expense worth it? It is purely the subjective appeal of space?
