The eight Democrats who broke rank Sunday night by voting alongside Republicans to advance a deal to end the shutdown are facing significant political blowback from within their own party.

This year's results could serve as a referendum on Trump's 2nd term in a state that he lost 3 times by considerable margins.

The race is of particular interest this year because Virginia is home to 300,000+ federal workers -- many of whom were likely affected by efforts made by DOGE to slash the federal workforce, as well as the current government shutdown.

Spanberger has maintained her lead in the polls in the VA gov race -- which comes during an election off-year and is often viewed as a political bellwether for competitive races in the following year's midterms.

At a rally for Spanberger, Obama told the crowd, “Our country and our politics are in a pretty dark place right now... Every day this White House offers up a fresh batch of lawlessness and recklessness and mean-spiritedness and just plain craziness.”
