"A recent study in Toronto by Collaโs lab suggests honeybee abundance decreases the richness and diversity of native bees."
thenarwhal.ca
Foreign honeybees get a lot of credit on Canadian farms, but native bees are better at adapting to a changing climate

Congrats to @TaylorKerekes on the successful defence of her MSc research. The Colla lab will miss you! @WPCWild911 is lucky to have someone so dedicated to native pollinator conservation.

Honey bee stressors everywhere all at once! Our new @BeeCsi study in @CurrentBiology, finds that stressor networks in honey bee colonies are complex and dependent on crop and region @AmroYorkU @BeesYork @lenjf. Read more here: https://t.co/iNO86zQB89 [ https://t.co/tEAKbyUOSV]

Happy international day for women and girls in science !! A huge thank you to Sheila and Hadil for welcoming me back to the lab to continue contributing to research at the inersection of insect biodiversity and climate change ๐ฆ๐๐๐
Health issues have put science on hold for me personally, but giving a shout out to my amazing lab members out there changing the world in different ways on this #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience

Off-road adventures, tick-infested terrain, and a rustic and isolated cabin were all part of the process for one graduate student advancing research on how climate change affects insects.

Really thankful I got to attend my first ever @EntsocAmerica meeting this week. Truly a blast, met some amazing people doing some very cool research. Also won the Presidentโs Prize 1st place for my talk in SysEB: Climate Change @BeesYork #EntSoc23

After three long field seasons and countless boat rides, today was my very last field day at the Long Point NWA as part of my PhD research. It was an amazing experience hope I get to go back again in the future. Thanks for all your help today @BriannDorin ๐
Super fun field day with @hadilelsayed_ at Long Point Provincial Park, even if the boat ride over was terrifying ๐

Graduate students especially those in entomology/ecology, how do you keep on top of writing during the field season? Field work and processing samples seem to be taking up all my time right now and writing has taken a backseat. #PhDlife

Urban honey bee hives may sound like a sweet idea, but new research by @YorkUEUC Prof Sheila Colla @SaveWildBees & team @MacKellSarah @hadilelsayed_ found they could be causing a decrease in Toronto of some wild bees, species richness & diversity https://t.co/KsVZhnAyuL

This project was made possible by the amazing work of seeing this to the finish line by two former masters students @MacKellSarah & @hadilelsayed_
Really glad to see this study out from @SaveWildBees & colleagues. Evidence continues to mount that increased urban honey bee abundance is correlated with decreased wild bee diversity (this time in Toronto)

Whatโs my least favourite part of malaise traps you ask? Sorting through all these tiny #insects at the bottom of the jar ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ

My very last first day of PhD fieldwork, definitely have some mixed feelings. Long Point was pretty cold that day and it rained, but still managed to set up all my malaise traps. Didnโt see many insects out except for a B. impatiens queen & a few flies.
