Ed Wilson, who mentored young players on the city’s baseball diamonds from 1956 to the mid 1980s, was one of the original Winter Park Optimist Little League coaches when the league was formed in 1956. He coached the Hanover Center team to a then-world record 50 consecutive wins.

Ron Musselman was an All-Conference hurler for John T. Hoggard High School’s state championship team earning numerous honors at Louisburg College and Clemson, He was drafted three times before pitching with MLB’s Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. @CityofWilm #ILM

Fred Lynch’s name has become synonymous with E.A. Laney HS athletics since his arrival nearly five decades ago. In 2012, he was inducted into the Laney Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2021, he was inducted into the NC Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. @CityofWilm @NewHanoverCo

Bill Curry’s not only caught waves, he’s made them during a storied career as a surfer. He won the East Coast Longboard Championship in 1979 and was inducted into the East Coast Surfing Legends Hall of Fame in 2004. #ILM @CityofWilm @WrightsvilleNC
