It's no longer the case that China only exports Bad Clothes and that the US only makes Good Clothes. In fact, we have a ton of sweatshops in Los Angeles churning out crappy fast fashion. US companies also rely on global supply chains for their production.

My new book, SPEAKING FOR NATURE: THE ORIGINS OF INDIAN ENVIRONMENTALISM, is out next month. It profiles ten thinkers who, in different but equally compelling ways, anticipated the environmental challenges that face India and the world today. More details below.

It is a very distinctively English thing: anything said with a mouth full of marbles is evidence of brilliance. For my sins, I've had twenty years of listening to bigoted rubbish articulated with a posh accent & an air of authority.

Douglas Murray's whole trick is just to say thuggish stuff but in a posh accent and there's a solid 30-40% of journalists who fall for it and think there is more to him than fashy blood lust.

Big news: AAUP ends their opposition to academic boycotts! Israeli academic institutions have helped Israel destroy Palestinians’ academic freedom, including killing thousands of students & faculty and bombing every university in Gaza. AAUP now affirms our duty to boycott them!

ever since i read about the weapon israel used to kill those kids - not an explosive bomb, but a weapon the pentagon and CIA developed in secret that blasts knives out to slice people to pieces - i couldn't stop thinking about that maxim: "the purpose of a system is what it does"

Dems have to listen. This is not about niceties or identity politics but accountability. Democrats cant be leading a genocide for 10 months and demand respectability politics by threatening that the alternative is worse. Genocide is not better if facilitated w empathy. #Gaza

There's actually no polite or correct way to confront empire. You can't. You're always going to be a heckler or a violent protestor and it has nothing to do with how you nicely you act or whatever rules you follow.

Mind-blowing new research from @NaomiOreskes shows definitively that climate change was on the minds of members of Congress as they drafted the Clean Air Act -- and that even schoolchildren were being alerted to the risks, way back in 1958:
