I donβt regret joining. I learned a lot. I had fun. But doing spec work was a contradiction I couldnβt ignore. Even good causes (public goods) donβt justify free labor. Design is infrastructure, and we should treat it with the same care as we treat smart contracts or governance.

I'm a big fan of Octant. They genuinely care about design and i'm certain they had the best intentions - but challenges in this format are not raising the standard. They are flattening it. Spec work isnβt just risky, it devalues design. Its not regenerative. It's extractive.

Took the opportunity to also improve their landing page to feel more cohesive and engaging. The new layout clarifies the structure, improves hierarchy, and adds visual rhythm through repeated pattern elements. (full thing in the link above)
