It's all part of the thematic work of giving something meaning that really isn't there and these are characters who's illnesses/trauma have awakened distrust of their own minds and perceptions and evoking that distrust in the audience...like it almost HAS to be both...
maybe this is controversial to say but the thing abt the supernatural vs psychological argument when it comes to Yellowjackets is that it's kinda beside the point bc its always both. even if/when its supernatural its all just an allegory for the psychological anyway.
