People have gotten so used to the availability of all music on streaming platforms that they forget there are tons of very common hurdles that can explain a record not being on DSPs. I can share examples of THREE types of projects I’ve been involved with that aren’t on streaming.

… without artists and punters, but the staff play such a huge part in getting the vibe right and it does often go unnoticed unless it’s a shambles. It’s just one factor that demonstrates how complex this issue is and how many different lives get impacted when we lose venues.

… I remember one person who’d worked there for over a decade telling me how they had to divert their routes through the centre Glasgow for 3 ½ years after The Arches shut because they couldn’t bring themselves to walk passed where it used to be. Obvs you can’t have a venue…

This is a really important point in all this chat about club closures that often gets overlooked. When I did my masters diss looking at the impact of club closures, the interviews I did with ex-staff from the Arches revealed a whole new perspective I hadn’t even considered…
an entire thread about clubs closing / club culture in crisis, and not a single mention of the workers at these clubs. there never is. only the interests of djs, promoters, & patrons are relevant, only they are the ones with enough agency to impact the circumstances, apparently.

The reason why mid and small clubs are closing is that 2 years of COVID closure broke the pipeline for young people finding club culture and increased the influence of corporate entertainment via streams. When the clubs reopened the newest generation mainly 1/9

It has been a shift & honestly they’re both right. I think there’s a bunch of stuff that has to run its course before we’re in a good place & there’s a few things that big artists primarily need to do to cultivate a better scene for the folks that buy tickets and come along (1)

For anyone in the queens park/shawlands area, our flat was broken into yesterday afternoon. They've literally taken a suitcase & filled it with valuables, plus some sentimental jewellery & possibly other things. Please let me know if these kind of things pop up online x

Of course the woman announcing people’s names at graduation today had to attempt a Scottish accent as soon as she clocked my kilt, right as I walked across stage to shake hands with the vice chancellor 🙃

15 year old Winston Hastings Kearse, has been missing since Friday morning. He left his mums house in Shawlands, Glasgow, without his phone, bank card or any money, leaving a note saying he wasn't going to school and wanted time to clear his head. He is about 5'5", slim build,

Can't agree with this enough. Never got the whole stigma in dance music if you don't do your own mixdowns, esp when its the norm in almost every other genre. A great mix doesn't make a great track / song. If the musical idea isn't there, no amount of work on the mix can fix that
More than likely. That isn’t a bad thing. @artworkmagnetic once said to me ‘if you had a leak in your roof would you fix it? I said no and he said ‘exactly’ don’t ever criticise people for making there product sound the best it can be.

Blows my mind that a return train ticket from London to Edinburgh is gonna skin me as much as my return flights to Naples. Trains in this country are fucked 🫠🫠🫠

Fair play to the guy ordering 2 cheeseburgers at 7:30am on the train to Blackpool. A perfectly balanced nutritious breakfast
