Actions speak louder than words. Over those six days of treating roads, with complete inaction on pavements and major cycle routes - the message from @RBKingston has been loud and clear.

They had plenty of time to deal with this. There are grit bins right there. These are major routes used by hundreds of people walking and cycling every day, and yet they just put up some "good luck, you'll need it" signs and simply walked away.

But nothing gets my back up like the Cut and the Beeline Way. These remained covered in thick, slippery ice. The @RBKingston solution was - to put up some signs? And leave it at that? For six days? Seriously?

Another multi-million pound scheme, on Kingston Road - again no treatment on the protected bike lane. I imagine this was worse earlier in the week. Compare with the adjacent road, which is treated, of course.

Green Lane - there's a grit bin beside the bridges, and thankfully someone had spread grit nearby. But away from the bridge, a layer of solid ice remained.

Lower Marsh Lane - this was mostly clear, but from the patches of thick frozen ice that remained here, it was clear that no treatment had been applied since the previous Sunday night.

Kingston bridge - another slap in the face for cyclists - the road is treated, but the only remaining bike lane is not. That's ice highlighting the bike logo, not paint. ๐Ÿšด

Same story at the multimillion pound cycling and walking bridge next to Kingston Station - again no signs of treatment here. ๐Ÿš‰

First stop - Kingston Hill, by the bus stop outside the hospital. A multi-million pound cycling scheme, but sadly no pavement treatment here. Given the location outside our local hospital, I was a bit surprised. The road had been treated though.๐Ÿš๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿšด

On Saturday, 6 days after the snow fell and froze, I wanted to know if @RBKingston had treated any of the borough's major cycle routes. Here's what I found:๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐ŸŒจ๏ธโ„๏ธโ„๏ธ๐Ÿšด

This is an interesting read - Harry does a good job of articulating some of the complexity around triaging pull requests for openstreetmap-website ๐ŸŒ

New diary entry "London pub meet-up and other updates": https://t.co/mPEOBKdY39 ...including getting paid by OSMF to do development work!

I've just been pointed to the idea of UK "Quiet Lanes", which have a sign a bit like Home Zones. Here's some in Suffolk - https://t.co/QNRYup9R0f . But the first one I check on OSM has a 60mph speed limit!? Is that common? Sounds unsuitable for walking and cycling, really.

These changes also simplify the CI, Docker and Vagrant scripts, and remove some code (which is always nice). But most importantly they simplify the installation steps, so our future developers will have fewer steps to get themselves up and running!

Two nice improvements to the developer setup experience for openstreetmap-website landed recently. We no longer need to add any custom SQL functions to the database, and the btree_gist database extension is now added automatically. https://t.co/fJOVXTdyAK

This simplifies the install instructions. Loading from structure.sql is already handled. The more I thought about what I wrote in #3110 the more I realised it was worth doing anyway.

The @RBKingston Highways Team have concluded that adding an A-frame sign to encourage drivers to be "cautious" is sufficient to ensure safety. Which is, to put it as politely as I can manage, utterly derisible. https://t.co/qlgSiTc41a #KingstonBridgeCycleLane

Response from Kingston Council on the closure of the two-way #KingstonBridgeCycleLane. Someone in "Highways" says that a temporary cycle lane wouldn't be acceptable in part due to air pollution that would result. If you don't accept this response please email your councillors.

Kingston Council have closed the only safe bike route across the Thames from Kingston, and are instructing cyclists to join 5 lanes of heavy traffic on A308 bridge. Do any Kingston Councillors look at this situation and think "that looks fine, I'll take my kids here tomorrow"?
