New preprint with @flourn0 and @leahsom! We use T1w/T2w myelin mapping in the HCP-Development sample to chart variation in the timing of cortical myelination during adolescence.

Functional latent clustering identified three data-driven groups of cortical areas showing similar rate and timing of T1w/T2w myelination. This spatial pattern of microstructural brain development closely parallels the S-A axis of cortical organization and information processing.

We observed graded differences in the rate of T1w/T2w myelination along the archetypal sensorimotor-association axis. These data demonstrate rapid myelination in sensorimotor areas and gradual myelination in distributed association areas during adolescence.
