Gas repricing researchers don't give any thought to Etheria, nor should they. Nonetheless, the fate of Ethereum's oldest NFT collection is in their hands! (15/15) @nero_eth @misilva73 @adietrichs @ben_a_adams

And with zkEVM, quantum resistance, and other upgrades coming down the line, more gas repricing is to be expected. Until ossification is achieved, uncertainty will remain. (14/15)

It’s not clear yet how SLOAD gas prices will shake out, but I’m monitoring the situation. If, for example, caching turns some cold SLOADs into (much cheaper) warm ones, the door could open for 1,000-block structures. (13/15)

There is another Ethereum upgrade called Glamsterdam planned for 2026. This upgrade will most likely include a whole bunch of gas repricing. For Etheria, the relevant opcode is SLOAD. (12/15) https://t.co/ywjDG21w4K

So, now that Fusaka has come and gone, my Etheria build is the largest one that will ever exist…right? Unfortunately for me, that may not be the case. (11/15)

As it turns out, 16.78M gas is reached at around 300 building blocks. I used 406 blocks for my structure, with the final block placement consuming 22.14M gas. (10/15) https://t.co/I9YUgrJ8b1

This kind of DoS attack has been recognized and studied by the Ethereum community for years. I just applied the idea in a new context. (9/15) https://t.co/S4OQ7SufJ8

smart contract attack vector: denial-of-service(dos) — preventing transactions from being executed successfully. can be caused by: + an unbounded `for loop`, leading to block gas limit or out-of-gas error. + failed external call. some reasons external calls could fail: *

It occurred to me that I had a window of opportunity before Fusaka. I could build beyond 16.78M gas. After Fusaka, my structure would not only be frozen, but it would be impossible to replicate. Very cool, and worth doing! (8/15)

Part of the upgrade is to impose a per-transaction gas limit of 2²⁴ ≈ 16.78M gas. (7/15) https://t.co/VUACxE6rJK

Fusaka Update – Transaction Gas Limit Cap (EIP-7825) The upcoming Fusaka hard fork introduces a per-transaction gas cap of 2²⁴ ≈ 16.78M gas. It's already live on testnets and mainnet activation is coming soon. Here's the link to the full post and the tl;dr what it means 🧵👇

About a month ago, I was wavering on whether I should build on one of my tiles. But once I read about the upcoming Fusaka upgrade, the answer became clear. (6/15)

Recently, however, gas costs have been quite low, reaching 0.05 gwei at times. Building is affordable again. That said, a tile holder might not want to “deface” their tile by building on it. (5/15)

Shortly after Etheria v0.9 was deployed, a three-block structure was built on tile 4,5. The project was then abandoned until 2021. By the time it was rediscovered, the cost of building was prohibitive. (4/15)

The building mechanism is clunky. In placing a new block, all existing blocks are scanned to check for a conflict. Thus, the gas cost for placing a block grows linearly with the size of the structure. (3/15)

As you may know, Etheria v0.9 is the first NFT collection ever created. It has tiles that can be farmed for building blocks. The blocks can be used to build structures. (2/15)
