i read a book i really loved & scroll let me write about it! if you’d like to read some truly profound konkani short stories in translation, please do pick up prakash parienkar’s collection (and maybe have a look at what i had to say about it).
Turning the page, in this collection, does not allow us to turn away; over and over, we witness the painstaking work that goes into existence being erased in pitiless seconds. https://t.co/6GIvMAVb22 Geetanjali Roy reviews Prakash Parienkar’s short stories collection.

startling piece + one of the edict’s first data driven stories; great interviews and arguments. while the overall narrative is somewhat disheartening, it is so so heartening to see this work being done by @AshokaEdict . incredibly proud.
Karnav Popat, Vishnu Prakash, Aditya Roy and Srijana Siri looked at the changing preferences of majors at Ashoka. The major-minor data, they find that since the pandemic, students are shifting towards combinations that offer a better return on investment. https://t.co/DhAoBlbHtW

Today, the Supreme Court struck down provisions in various State Prison Manuals that mandated the assignment of work in prisons based on caste & the classification of denotified tribes as habitual offenders. The judgment was delivered in Sukanya Shantha v. UOI~1

always proud of the @edict_sports team for their coverage of ashokan sports; batch championships updates have been engaging and dedicated as per! only times in the year where i’m not mad about sports on the timeline.
That's that. After a long 4 days of jam-packed sporting action across the Ashoka campus, UG2023s continue the tradition of 2nd years winning the championships! A huge shoutout to the ASPs, who came in 2nd place and pushed the championships to the end, despite missing members.

one of the most phenomenal, startling, unsettling and discomfiting productions i've witnessed, especially since it did such brilliant work with the idea of viewership, passivity/activity & what an "audience" is. 10/10 rec, @ob_jato @slurrysulphide
Over the past few months, I co-wrote and co-directed a theatre adaptation of The Mahabharata. It asks: what if Krishna and Draupadi were a part of 2000s Bollywood? I couldn't feel prouder of the team and how it's turned out. Go watch now! https://t.co/VTIfW36sgT

They're forcing the administration to do this and we'd do well to recognise that.

There's a fundamental misconception in this supposed entrepreneurial encouragement to just "do it yourself". Nobody who is protesting is "relying" on the administration to do anything; if they were reliant, they would have settled for the indefinite delays on the ADC and the EOC.

This expectation of further labour is fundamentally elitist and frankly... lazy? Do you think people who are taking it upon themselves to sleep in the Atrium and now outside the University gates are doing so because they recognise themselves to have other options in this space?

Also, this expectation of labour— marginalised people on this campus are already performing the labour required to conduct this protest so that institutional resources can be utilised to conduct something that will be institutionally recognised & reckoned with.

So even if, hypothetically, students were to take it upon themselves to conduct the most comprehensive caste census imaginable, it wouldn't go anywhere because the University would, in no way, be forced to acknowledge the bias the data would inevitably identify.

The administration understands *itself* to be the University. The founders, administration and even the student body at large are complicit in a culture elevating authority to the position where it can be the sole arbiter of what this campus space means— politically, ethically.

Also, there is absolutely no *point*, even to the most comprehensive, most reliable student-led survey/census. If the administration does not conduct and consequentially sanction it, it is at liberty to not acknowledge its results & findings.

No student-led endeavour can possibly have the resources and the institutional power it would take to render the data derived through any survey like this comprehensive in a setting where student apathy towards social justice issues is the default setting.

Non-responsiveness to student-led caste surveys is also, obviously, symptomatic of the very thing a demand for an institutionally conducted caste census gestures towards. Savarna students in savarna-dominated spaces won't even spend a few seconds providing this demographic data.

More importantly, no student-conducted survey will *ever* garner the kind of response an institutionally mandated and overseen census can! This UG'25 student managed to get about 16% of their batch size to respond. Who would consider that comprehensive & reliable data?

10 respondents said they were from the OBC category; 1 respondent from the SC and ST categories, each. Firstly, even this rudimentary data, collected through individual attempts, indicates the Ashokan campus is a savarna-dominated space.

@AshokaEdict's report on affirmative action at @AshokaUniv: a UG'25 student conducted a batch caste survey where 97 out of 109 respondents said they belong to the General Category. The UG'25 cohort has 690 students. https://t.co/Col4SQ52Ll

"You want a census - do it yourself. Don’t depend on the admin to do it" — interesting! Attempts at caste surveys, in fact, have been made at a batch-wise level. What these attempts reveal feeds @forum2024's demands for an institutionally conducted census.
@forum2024 A bit of an overclaim. The protesting students came and stood outside the door of the class during the ten minute break after the first hour of the class. They shouted slogans for two or three minutes and then went away. I was inside the classroom in a conversation with some
