Here's a crazy idea How about the state just stop killing people
This is a big story from @SmithCaseyA. State has spent more than a million on execution drugs and half expired without use. https://t.co/tPFW9Kgt7z

I would say history will judge poorly those in power who stood by and allowed this to happen but there may be no humans to look back on this

I’m genuinely puzzled why physicians were the hook for this piece If @jstewartIndy plans to write about again about medicine, I’d urge a closer engagement with the facts Especially now, our profession deserves accuracy, especially on issues this serious 7/

It seems like the "death can never be dignified" paragraph is the beginning of a poorly developed argument showing the author's pro-life bonafides (which is fine, and helpful to know for next time I read a piece of his) It just lands super awkwardly 6/

And then this paragraph is just mind bogglingly bad We all die, and as a critical care physician I see a lot of dignified deaths (nearly all, to be honest) Writing that "death can never be dignified" is far from reality and leaves me sort of speechless 5/

Even in the case of lethal injection (like the May execution of Benjamin Ritchie), a physician need not be involved They may declare death, but that’s far from performing the execution There’s no evidence physicians are required—or routinely involved—in Indiana executions. 3/

First, the entire "hook" of the piece turns on physicians being involved in the execution process in Indiana I can find no evidence that this is the case- the Indiana execution protocol is not publicly available (probably by design, TBH) 2/

I'm trying to decode this piece by @jstewartIndy in the @indystar from yesterday I am an opponent of state-sanctioned death as punishment but this piece had me scratching my head A few thoughts in a quick 🧵 1/ https://t.co/9xNu779i80

Indiana's lethal injections force doctors to break their "do no harm" oath while costing $450,000 per execution.

Maybe I’m just a moron but I don’t understand the criteria for something to be a foul in the NBA It seems subjective at best

This is no longer a land that values free speech
Hi everyone. Reactivating twitter to share this I was denied entry, detained, and deported from the USA at the end of last week because of my reporting on the Columbia student protests I arrived back in Melbourne on Sat 6am and had my phone handed back to me upon landing
