💭Goal setting is a popular and trendy topic in the sports world and while many love to talk about the goals they have, few lay them out in a format that is digestible and actually acheivable. Process✅→ Performance✅→ Outcome✅.

💭Bottom line: Mechanics, drills, and feel work matter. But one of the main drivers of sustainable performance is simply arm strength built through smart volume and intensity. That’s what separates flashes from long-term results.

💭Drills and skill acquisition only work if the body can handle them. True progress is simple: throw → fail → adjust → repeat, under enough capacity to sustain it.

💭Once that foundation is in place, higher-intent throws and skill work can actually stick. Without it, early PRs may feel good but increase the risk of injury or prolonged de-loads, flare-ups, etc.

💭That capacity doesn’t appear overnight. Early months of a program are foundation work: accumulating low-intent throws, building recovery, and handling volume.

💭Why it matters: your arm needs the capacity to throw hard, often, and consistently before any mechanics or drills will consistently translate to performance.

💭Mechanical focus, plyos, drills, feel work, these are all important. But the ability of a throwing program to build general arm strength, independent of mechanics or drills, is often overlooked.

You don't need to keep switching drills or exercises if what you're doing is effective. If you change the variables, you change the outcome. If you like the outcome, why are you changing the variables?

If you have to ask what parts of your routine you should do while you are doing (x), the answer is to do as much of the routine as you can. If you have to ask how to go about getting back into your routine after doing (x), the answer is picking up where you left off.

💭Stop judging every day by your end goal. Zoom in. Win today’s process. Stack weeks. Stack months. That’s how “95” or “D1” actually happens. I talk about this a little more in depth here 👇 https://t.co/8BMf4gddGy

💭Performance goals are the checkpoints that stack: - First pitch strike% 54 → 62 - +10 lbs on squat by November - 7/10 changeups with target shape in a pen Stack performance goals + live in your process = outcomes take care of themselves.

💭Process goals are the controllables: - Prep + recovery - Intentional throwing/lifting - Reviewing what was good/bad - Making 1 actionable adjustment next time That’s what separates guys who keep climbing from those who continue to run in place.

💭Many athletes only focus on the outcome goals: - Go D1 -Throw 95 -Get drafted But outcomes are never fully in your control. You don’t dictate offers, scouts, or lineup cards. What you DO control is your process.

The more you, as an athlete, can begin to look at your outings/training as just information/data to act on, the less emotional you become in relation to the result and the quicker you can make the necessary adjustments (or not).
1/ At Tread, I train everyone from underdeveloped high school pitchers to MLB vets. It’s awesome working with this range of talent! But their mindsets? Totally different in training. Some things young pitchers should consider 🧵 👇

Was curious after Chris touched on Bieber's ability to tunnel his arsenal, the 2022 release data (his last fully healthy season), supports this claim. Effective tunneling doesn't come from just throwing everything out of the same window, but it does help!
When you watch clips, the primary takeaway (to me) is he must tunnel his pitches incredibly well... because hitters don't seem to see his stuff.
