I miss when my twitter feed was all journalists from around the world dispensing valuable information. Now it's one giant scroll of influencers, trolls, bots and poor judgment. And, for once, it's not my fault.

Lots of angry grumbling and muted calls of "shut it down" as Scripps and other commissioners are speaking. Someone called out "blood on your hands.".

Big crowd for Michigan Public Service Commission meeting. Decision on @Enbridge Line 5 tunnel expected soon. (Last time I was in this room, a pipeline opponent and his grandson smeared themselves in cake batter to protest the pipeline).

This again. Private wells are contaminated in Rockford and homeowners are wondering if their ailments are linked to PFAS exposure. This time, it's next to @WolverineWW corporate headquarters.

Anyway, here's my report from this afternoon. Thankfully, diesel fuel is evaporative on a sunny lake and it has remained offshore so far.

Reporters and editors should also be a more careful about putting a big number like that in a headline when it comes with an asterisk word like "potential.".

I understand why @USCGGreatLakes is being cautious about releasing unverified estimates, but I don't exactly see how releasing a big number that isn't accurate is a better option. If there's nuance, just say so. Don't play word games bound to sow confusion.

“It’s definitely not anywhere close to 45,000″ was how Coast Guard Lt. Heather Stemmerman put it.

I spoke to two sources involved in the response today, one being the Coast Guard PIO. Each confirmed than the ship itself estimated 1k gallons was released. That remains to be verified, but the CG stated clearly to me that 45k gallons is not the actual total.
