CORS is a major pain for ChatGPT MCP & widget dev. You need separate configs for: - MCP routes - OAuth 2.1 routes - Widget assets (allowlist https://t.co/I6ZjL0G1ww) Fast-track it: Gadget’s forkable template has it all pre-configured →

But it’s early days. No server-side rendering. No dynamic HTML. We built a Vite plugin at Gadget to make this bearable. 👉

Now for the fun part: Widgets They let you render real, interactive UIs inside ChatGPT via sandboxed iframes. That’s how things like the Figma app show up inside the chat. Wild.

OAuth is completely flipped. You’re not authenticating with ChatGPT — ChatGPT authenticates with you. If you use Auth0, Clerk, or Gadget, you’re already halfway there.

Most examples use SSE for the MCP server. You can, but you shouldn’t. ChatGPT fully supports Streamable HTTP. It’s faster, cleaner, and doesn’t break on serverless. Use StreamableHTTPServerTransport and thank us later.

First off: A ChatGPT App isn’t “just a plugin.” It’s: - An MCP server - Optional OAuth 2.1 provider - A way to render UI widgets inside ChatGPT itself It’s a whole system, not just an endpoint.
