Very interesting paper on longer school days and divorce rates, in part because of increased female labor force participation rates.

Check out our new publication with Cecilia Peluffo and @ViollazMariana on the effects of extending the school day on divorce! The availability of full time schools ⬆️ divorce, especially in areas with non traditional social norms.

It breaks my heart to see that all the amazing work that has since been done on women’s safety made no difference to the life of this woman, this amazing, brave doctor who was going to dedicate her life serving others.

To make it easy to understand how the lack of safety is so very costly and that the responsibility to make women feel safe does not just lie with them or their families.

I started working on women’s safety in 2016 to try to make a difference to this narrative, to make policy makers understand that women’s safety is a basic human right that is important not just for them but for the entire economy.

12 years have passed at nothing has changed about the narrative. All of the onus rests on women to stay safe, to have the basic right to move around, to work, to live freely.

I was in India when the Nirbhaya rape hit the news and I saw my father standing in front of the television with his eyes welled up, looking at me as I entered the room with fear and disbelief. I am back in India at a time when a young doctor has been raped at her workplace.

Great event on gender and growth gaps in India organized by @YaleEGC and IEG. Really enjoyed the discussions around digital gender gap, the effects of flexibility on women’s labor force participation and interaction of the demand and supply side constraints.
