Pepper🌱seedling🌱update, day #17: Great news -- I have germination on 17 of 18🌶#HotPepper🌶varieties (94%). Only holdout is White #Habanero. Must give a shoutout to @BurpeeGardening. This is the first time I've used their Organic Seed Staring Mix, with great results🏆!

They're small but very pretty and under-rated. #HotPepper flowers are SO SO gorgeous.
Red flower flexuosum at home. This one has one of the best flowers, but is super hard to get to set pods with seeds in, so have moved it to a shady position to see if that makes a difference like it did with Friburgense.

Yep. Red 🌶'penos🌶 are ace! Sweeter and more tender than the green. Mine are still green -- it's been cooler than normal until now.
Buying pepper plants at Costco probably counts as cheating I've got tons of red jalapños and and it's not even July

Developed by Italian growers, the Purple Death pepper is a cross between the 7 Pot Primo and the Purple Ghost pepper. The peppers, which start off purple and ripen to red, are extremely hot and are considered superhots. #ParadiseAndALittleSpice

We all need to think in the long term. I have no regrets using cinder blocks as my beds. I think concrete lasts nearly forever.
Replacing a couple of the rotting beds with something a bit longer lasting. One more to go tomorrow.

Obviously not gonna happen this year (too late). I'll also probably keep it to 6-12 varieties (I was growing 20+ at my peak). I will stay away from super-hots (Cayenne to Habanero heat is admittedly my territory). I need to get a new camera with a good macro function.

Great to see you playing it safe and start planting in May. The one thing I've learned is that there is little benefit starting pepper plants too early. I look forward to watching this years progress 👍😜

Loved the eclipse today. We had 88% totality here in Frederiscksburg Virginia. It dimmed quite a bit, but what I found most fascinating was that at its peak, the birds stopped chirping & it became eerily silent. Also the temperature went down a few degrees. I love nature.
