My other neighbours ought to be ashamed. A newcomer has arrived and dusted you all. Look how this family lights up their home, look how their corner of the compound gleams... and then look at yours: dark, lifeless, and utterly shameful. Embarrassing.

Saying "The EP is based on the agricultural era" doesn’t make it so. And if "clubs are free for women" is the evidence offered, then this conversation has run its course. Have a day.
Lmao. The EP is based on Agric-era. I don’t like unnecessary circular arguments when my point is clear with data. Also yes, female financial hypergamy is caused by men. And still exist due to our Ego. It’s why many clubs are still free for women till date.

Again, we can try to tilt culture—but people make choices within the world as it is, not the world as we wish it to be. This is my last on this.

Culture clearly modulates behaviour, but modulation isn’t creation. It’s more consistent with the evidence that culture amplifies or suppresses underlying tendencies rather than inventing them wholesale.

4. "Don’t assume biology" is itself an assumption. Prehistory does not give us a blank slate, nor does it erase asymmetric reproductive costs. Pregnancy, lactation, and child dependency existed long before agriculture and reliably shape mating incentives.

Again, if the preference were purely an agricultural artifact, we would expect it to vanish under equality—not merely attenuate. Attenuation is not elimination.

3. If you read my response, you'd see I never said hypergamy expands in egalitarian societies, but that it shrinks. However, that hypergamy shrinks in egalitarian societies is not evidence against an evolved baseline; it’s evidence that context modulates expression.

2. It is also not true that analysing hunter-gatherer societies leads to the opposite conclusion. What the data show is that the preference gradient narrows, not that it reverses or disappears. If it were purely an agricultural artifact, it should vanish, not merely shrink.

1. You did by saying "men caused hypergamy," and grounding mate preferences in agriculture. EP is not based solely on agric-era data. Much of it relies on cross-cultural and comparative data precisely because agriculture is too recent to ground evolutionary claims.
Nope. I didn’t flatten human history. Only said that EP is based on Agro era. They can’t analyse hunter-gather data and come to same conclusion. And even egalitarian societies shows the financial hypergamy closes than expand. Don’t assume biology. Pre-history doesn’t

In summary, men did not "cause" hypergamy, nor did agriculture invent it. Women show a preference for competent, resource-secure partners because of parental investment differences. That some women marry down does not negate this.
