The changes announced today for schools is the right response for schools. Now we wait for the @Ofstednews plans for colleges to ensure that inspections work well for them as well

This is the only misstep I’ve seen Phillipson make so far. There is no way colleges can wait until Jan to find out if they can offer BTECs next September. Open evenings are this term! Ads need designing, staff sorting! And crucially: this would never happen to A-Levels.

Why does a teacher of a 16-year-old in a school sixth form deserve a pay rise, but not a teacher of a 16-year-old in a college? If, like me, you think all teachers deserve the pay rise, please sign this petition👇 https://t.co/kptxD6nhuV #loveourcolleges #publicsectorpay

"The recommended pay of college teachers has declined by 18% in real terms since 2010–11." Good news for school teachers & junior doctors yesterday. Less so for the wonderful folk who work in FE.

Am hearing that college teachers aren’t included in the latest announcement about pay rises. Obviously it’s great news for schools, but I don’t know how colleges are expected to recruit when the pay gap with schools already stands at £7k on average, before this latest rise. 1/n

Teachers are getting a well-deserved pay rise. The Conservatives left the profession overstretched and undervalued. We said we’d change that, and we meant it.

And there is of course VAT on college education for all, including the majority of 16 to 18 year olds. Colleges pay £200m per year back to the government. We have repeatedly asked for this unfair tax on education to be removed, to no avail @Samfr

Several things wrong with this. Labour have said children with EHCPs (plans for special needs) will be exempt from VAT. Secondly private schools do pay VAT already (then added to fees). It's just that the parents don't. So there is already a tax on education.

Breaking: 90% of schools now rated good or outstanding at their most recent inspection. Over 200,000 more children now attend good or outstanding schools in the last year alone. Thanks to the hard work of teachers and our reforms, we're continuing to drive up school standards.
