New podcast episode (link in reply) Questions of nationalism are re-emerging in the 2020s, so let's take a closer look. Scotland is our case study. We look at how small kingdoms coalesced into a nation with a fierce national identity. We also debunk a certain Mel Gibson movie.

@TheBlackHorse65 The only red flag is that she posts stuff on TikTok. I'd be worried about a breach of my privacy (even if it wasn't intentional). Other than that... an attractive blonde who doesn't rub my mother the wrong way, and she's showing interest in me? Oh, woe is me.

@FromKulak I must respectfully disagree. My ex was a true believer. For the first year of that relationship, I thought she was just repeating buzzwords to get a masters degree. But as I got to know her better and the mask slipped, I realized she believes 100%. Which is even scarier.

@TheBlackHorse65 I just finished re-reading The Machiavellians. The last chapter, especially the section "The Meaning of Democracy" is a gut punch, because it reveals that we're living in The Truman Show. Democracy means "friends of the regime", and Fascism means "regime enemies". Period.
