The Freedom From Religion Foundation is a national 501 (c)(3) non-profit with nearly 40,000 nonreligious members working to keep state and church separate.
Madison, WI
Joined July 2009
When religion and government mix, both are corrupted. A secular democracy safeguards everyone’s conscience — Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, and beyond. That’s the real American ideal. 🇺🇸

Atheists are among the nation’s most engaged defenders of true religious freedom. 👉 They vote at high rates. 👉 They overwhelmingly support equal rights and evidence-based policy. 👉 And they understand the First Amendment protects everyone — believers and nonbelievers alike.

Faith should never dictate votes — but it’s telling that nonbelievers, who value facts over dogma, overwhelmingly rejected Trump’s brand of Christian nationalism.
In 2024, Trump received 78% of the votes of Southern Baptists. His share among United Methodists was 61%. He won 59% of the Catholic vote. 37% of Jews voted for Trump and 35% of Episcopalians. However, just 10% of atheists were Trump voters.

Unfortunately, they’re probably right. With this Supreme Court’s track record, no hard-won right is truly safe. That’s why vigilance — and a strong wall between church and state — matters more than ever.
The Supreme Court rejected Liberty Counsel's request to overturn marriage equality this time, but the anti-LGBTQ group vows to keep at it, insisting "it's not if, but when" the Court will agree.

It’s perfectly lawful for private entities like Microsoft to decide who they work with. The state cannot compel them to fund or partner with religious organizations, especially those that spread misinformation or discrimination under the guise of faith.
Today, I sent a letter to @Microsoft over their anti-Christian discrimination. Christian-based nonprofit organizations have been denied access to Microsoft’s nonprofit discount program. We expect Microsoft’s cooperation in fixing this problem, or there will be consequences.

If there’s a Muslim official weaponizing the state to promote Islam, let us know — we oppose all theocracy. If your gripe is simply that Muslims exist, welcome to America. Religious freedom is for everyone.
@FFRF Why is it that woke people always provoke Christians and never Muslims? Is Sharia in line with the Constitution?

Wild that we have to explain basic constitutional law to an Attorney General, but here we are: The government can’t cancel events just because it dislikes the viewpoint expressed. That’s First Amendment 101.
Two days before Christmas, Pensacola will host a demonic, sexually explicit drag show at the city-owned Saenger Theatre. Pensacola shouldn’t platform obscenities that denigrate its residents and expose kids to harmful content. They should cancel the event.

Imagine thinking working alone with a woman is a moral crisis. One HVAC tech did—following the "Billy Graham rule"—and now he’s suing his employer for firing him. https://t.co/JpRKHoSxuS

Good news and better news. ✨ More people are actually reading the Bible and realizing it’s not true. Critical thinking is on the rise, and that’s something to celebrate.
Good news and bad news. Good: @BarnaGroup finds the highest level of Christian Bible reading in a decade. Bad: Only 36% of Americans believe the Bible is true. @ChristianPost

It’s never been more important to acknowledge nonreligious and non-Christian veterans — including the proverbial “atheists in foxholes” — given the Pentagon’s recent attacks on the constitutional separation between religion and government. https://t.co/uf0GJv8bkW

We are celebrating the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision today to reject a misguided appeal seeking to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark 2015 ruling that guaranteed marriage equality nationwide.

The Religious Freedom for Me, Not Thee Award
SCOTUS rejected Kim Davis’s attempt to turn her religion into a license to discriminate. Public officials serve everyone, not their personal faith. Church & state must stay separate. Equality isn’t optional. If you were giving Kim an award, what would be the name of the award?

More women have nearly bled to death during miscarriage under Texas’ abortion ban. Experts say the trend paints a troubling picture of the harms of unnecessary delays in care. “This is striking,” one doctor said. “The trend is very clear.” https://t.co/qDuWf03VCr

A new ProPublica data analysis adds to the mounting evidence that abortion bans have made the common experience of first-trimester miscarriage far more dangerous.

An incredible thing has been happening on tiktok since this woman has been going viral. The amount of pastors who are crashing out over this series is truly something to behold. Its clear she must've called their churches and didnt know they were about to go viral. People are
This woman is running her own social experiment. She's in the south calling various churches and asking if they could feed a starving baby. Here's a list of churches that said yes/no. The few that said yes include black churches, a Buddhist temple, and an Islamic center.

Religious institutions enjoy tax exemption on the condition that they stay out of partisan politics. The IRS’s inaction has turned that safeguard into a loophole for Christian nationalism.
New: A Fort Worth church’s candidate training program is the “next stage” of a religion-driven political movement, which has more latitude now that the IRS has allowed religious leaders to endorse candidates from the pulpit, an expert said.
