We are sharply condemning the IRS’s stunning decision to openly abandon enforcement of the Johnson Amendment when it comes to churches, which could effectively turn them into unregulated political action committees subsidized by taxpayers.

This is not a repeal of the Johnson Amendment — this is the IRS choosing to ignore it when churches violate it. FFRF remains committed to holding tax-exempt organizations accountable and is exploring all legal avenues to respond to this abdication of responsibility.

The IRS just told a court that churches can endorse political candidates without risking their tax-exempt statuses. The Johnson Amendment is now effectively DEAD. 🚨This is huge—and terrifying.🚨.

We are strongly criticizing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for issuing yet another hollow “Day of Prayer” proclamation and for making insensitive remarks following the devastating flooding that claimed dozens of lives in Central Texas.

Prayer won’t stop the next flood. We need science, not sermons. It’s time to fully support NOAA and the National Weather Service — and stop the White House from undermining the very agencies that keep us safe.

The White House Faith Office asks you to join us in prayer for the precious lives lost in the Texas floods. Amidst this tragedy, our nation must come together to pray for the victims, their families, and the first responders conducting rescue missions to find those still missing.

Cool story, but America is a secular nation with people of many different beliefs — and no beliefs at all. Elected officials should represent everyone, not preach their religion from public office.

Prayer won’t stop the flooding in Texas — but science, planning, and bold climate action can help prevent future devastation. It’s time to take real action to actually save lives.

Declared this Sunday, July 6th, as a Day of Prayer in Texas in response to the floods in the Hill Country. I invite Texans to join me in prayer for the communities affected by this disaster.
