Wrote about how I think about AI's effects on the labor market! I think about occupations as being on a Causal/Negotiation paradigm, and how that seems to be an underlying factor in determining replacement risk.

Watching the original Iron Man with 6yo, and I had my first experience of feeling Wokily guilty about having enjoyed a movie at a time when cultural norms were different: Tony Stark is really, unacceptably rude to his AI.

I am on the (red-hot) 2025–26 academic job market! I study wide-ranging, important, and contemporary issues in education policy and domestic violence. My job market paper studies academic accommodations in higher education: trends and drivers, who uses them, and academic impacts.

I’m on the #EconJobMarket! School districts have been eliminating achievement-based admissions in an effort to promote access to the most sought-after schools for disadvantaged and underrepresented students. But what happens when this change occurs, and can we do better? 1/12

iirc in middle school, i might have fallen asleep like 3/4 the way through a state test and that led to me being one step below the highest math and reading rung until i gained a conscious and was like what i am doing in this class

aside: my gut instinct tells me that SAT results give a stronger picture than state-wide exams due to performance incentives. yes, there are selection effects that must be accounted for. but when is the last time you heard of anyone taking a mandatory state test seriously?

Here's the full photo briefly featured in my recent video post showing @BlackGryph0n against the full solar chromosphere after his jump. Crazy how small he looks despite being nearly 50,000,000x closer! This ended up being my most popular print (vs the closeup) linked in my bio.

It doesn't matter how much money you put into schools. Here's a cross-sectional overview. Per pupil spending and math scores.
