A show you don’t want to miss at 4p ET / 1p PT. I’ll be having a one of a kind interview with Joaquin Oliver. He died in the Parkland school shooting in 2018. But his parents have created an AI version of their son to deliver a powerful message on gun violence. Plus Texas State

i may dig myself into the broke grad student hole eventually, namely if those 2 applications don’t go anywhere (which they probably won’t; i’m out of industry hiring experience atp). until then, life is just making every moment worth something. many hopes and dreams to be made!.

now, i see and hear from more and more of my friends landing big name internships meanwhile i haven’t applied for any (okay, i’ve applied for 2). feels a bit strange to see so many people find this upward success while i’ve been awaiting applications for another year.

earlier this summer, i turned down $20k from a return offer internship to spend 2 months writing a paper and getting a part time job. qol feels unchanged, i’m spending within my means, but honestly idk if i’m happier in comparison. more or less neutral.

in their minds, the roi on loans for philosophy at duke is magically better than being a code monkey from a state school. i can’t verify such a claim, but i can benefit from it. and so, that’s why i study philosophy.

i am so grateful that my parents would rather pay tuition at an elite school for philosophy than a state school for cs/econ.

Younger Americans are setup for failure with debt traps. “I am $205,000 in debt at the age of 24, and this is what I pay in monthly bills:. - So we're going to start out with my portion of rent. That's going to be $550.- My phone is a prepaid phone, so that's only $50 a month.-

in less than a decade, everyone in tech has changed course about copyright and intellectual property. aaron swartz would be astonished at the normalcy that everyone from giants of industry to the average users holds of unlawful actions that got him in trouble, not so long ago.

can you imagine if Aaron Swartz, with his 20 year sentence, had heard about the great AI Internet scrape-ening?. RIP.

If anything, this is probably a positive outcome. As elite universities became more selective, admitting people of higher intelligence or practical capabilities, it makes little sense to send such people to die in foreign countries rather than have them at home producing value.

We simply do not know the amount of Ivy/elite university grads who have taken up intelligence or financier roles in modern conflicts. Boots on the ground is just one way to fight a war, and a way that is increasingly outdated at that.

Strivers do not fight for allegiances. They fight for profit, as has been the motive of every conflict since WWII.

Compare WASP noblesse oblige to today's striver indifference: . 27,000 Harvard grads fought in WWII. Only 150 fought in Iraq+Afghanistan.
