All correlations among value ratings are positive (Table 1). This highlights limitation of Likert scales: some people really like smashing the "Absolutely Essential" button. We thus have to transform data to meaningfully measure prioritization among values
Like much of my work, this is arguably a measurement paper in disguise (since measurement is "boring"). For me, the spark behind the paper stems from hearing long ago that political disagreements are rooted less in holding different values, more in selecting values to prioritize

Equity is the value with most varied responses. Self-identified liberals indicate higher importance for equity (no surprise) but also representation.
