I asked a lady in church today “where are you from?” She told me Gillingham- but originally Kerala, India. She asked me if I was from Ireland or England as most priests she meets are Irish.
Neither of us was offended. Because neither of us was looking to be offended.
Dear government; No way will I support vaccine passports for church entry.
I am not your lackey, nor do I work for the NHS or police. If asked to comply with shutting people out of church- I will refuse and face the consequences.
I am a priest. My door is open to everyone
Every Irish parish should put a notice out this Sunday: “if you voted yes then refrain from receiving communion until you have been to confession with a truly contrite heart.”
The Vatican should cancel the papal visit lest it be used as political ammunition by victors
No livestream mass today.
I am off to anoint my father who is critically ill in hospital with another bout of sepsis. He has been placed on a ward with Covid. Your prayers are appreciated. His name is Barry
utter abandonment of the faith by Church of England. It transpires lady “priests” who became first to have relationship “blessing” are both, in fact already married (to men) and mothers of adult children. Neither have annulments. How does one even parody this level of heresy?
A thread:
Fundamentalist Islam is the actual elephant in the room.
Immigration is NOT the issue. In most Catholic parishes you will find other Catholics from all over the world who are amazing people and who make only a positive contribution to society.
Here is the statement I've been shown by the British Confraternity of Catholic Clergy, which consists of more than 500 priests and deacons in England, Scotland and Wales. My emphasis at the bottom:
The C of E today told the world that it believes the conclusions of the sexual revolution got it right and Jesus, scripture & 2000 yrs of tradition got it wrong.
What is the point of Anglicanism if it just follows the world and abandons its own historic teaching?
If Welby wants to make amends for historic crimes- will this mean a massive payment to the Catholics whose monasteries were plundered, churches stolen and people treated appallingly? We could do with a few quid in Pembury for starters…
Congratulations Deacon Richard Pain, formerly the Anglican bishop of Monmouth, who is now on his way to becoming a Catholic priest with the The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham.
He becomes the very first to be made deacon by our new Bishop David Waller
Being a Catholic priest in the 21st Century must be the only job in which you get flak and criticism for doing your job faithfully and according to the book. This tells us much about the agenda of those at the top.
The situation in the church is scandalous. A blow to clergy morale.
Traditionalists suppressed to the point of being unable to advertise holy mass.
Whilst NOTHING is done about blatant heresy in Germany which plainly contradicts scripture.
Our bishops have abandoned us.
1/2 People were scandalised at mass this morning. I assured them the clergy here will bless anyone - but not sinful acts under any circumstance. I was ordained to preach the scriptures not the outworking of the worldly sexual revolution.
Why don’t bishops of England and Wales travel to ridiculous “no prayer zone” outside abortion clinic and pray silently?
It would be a great witness, a blow to totalitarianism- it would defend Christian rights and speak out for life.
It would also heal trust lost in lockdowns
People who think Catholics can just live stream mass don’t understand how sacraments work.
Would be like showing your family a film of others eating and claiming it a decent substitute for actually feeding them
If the current Catholic hierarchy have lost confidence in the Catholic faith they should have integrity and resign. It’s time to demand action from bishops - the silence is deafening, who is a faithful shepherd and who a mere institutional hireling, we shall know very soon.
St John Fisher was killed as much by the silence of his brother bishops as he was by the wicked Henry. Had they all stood as one before the tyrant the king would have been forced to relent - but in cowardice they abandoned him to his fate. The devil wins when bishops fall silent
Over 50 under 16s at Mass this morning - not bad for a small village church! Ours is very much a congregation of young families hungry for the fullness of the Catholic faith. (Photo from archives)
@AllisonPearson
It’s a pandemic of fear as much as anything else. Fear does bad things to people and I think history will show that whilst the nudge units helped with compliance they have caused huge psychological and societal damage. It’s time we spoke of hope and joy and life not just death
@HelenBarbaraSmi
@CatholicArena
So you would argue paramedics should have been held back from contaminating the scene? They were allowed in to try and save his body - the priest should have be let in under same circumstances for the saving of the soul.
Pope Benedict’s authentically Catholic vision of unity was to call Anglicans home via the Ordinariate.
Pope Francis’ modernist vision of unity is to call Catholics to be like the liberal Anglicans.
Hence his confusing commissioning of Anglican female bishops today.
Best paragraph in today’s newspaper:
AN 88-year-old Italian woman who got lost in the forest while looking for mushrooms survived for 4 days by drinking rainwater from puddles, reciting the rosary and talking to a fox.
We don’t offer fox talking but rosary is Fridays at 9am
@calvinrobinson
All the bishops of England and Wales should go and do the same. This would cause a major headache for the authorities- they could even organise bus loads. Why don’t they?
A man has been imprisoned for singing insulting song about Allah.
But Christians have been disciplined for praying with patients, wearing crosses & arrested for praying silently outside abortion clinics.
Looks like a two tier government approach to religions to me.
@CardinalNapier
@holysmoke
Jesus met sinners calling them to repentance & new life.
The outrage is that multiple sexual scandals emanating from this generation of hierarchs in Mother Church suggest zero repentance or amendment of life or even love of Christ.
People are sick of gaslighting & filth.
In wake of Vigano, broadly speaking, we find two responses.
1. Those horrified at abuse and cover up calling for investigation and heads to roll (no matter rank)
2. Those wanting to move on with minimum fuss to protect institution and current hierarchy
I choose 1.
@mcarr736
@RealCandaceO
Clearly teachers need sensitivity. But for the record there isn’t a single child on earth with two dads or two mums. There are however many children not being raised by their biological parents due to the breakdown of marriage and the nuclear family.
Paglia’s mural, coco’s parties, mcCarricks nephews, Tobins baby..the Gallen Mafia, return of Daneels, elevation of Martin. Who am I to judge? agenda of recent synods- all point in one direction and this news chimes with it. Only wilfully blind could fail to give it credence.
The Ordinariate provides a great home for former Anglicans within the Catholic fold. We have great liturgical treasures drawn from our Anglican patrimony and a robust biblical faith to underpin it. A real home from home. Why not check us out?
I don’t salute the government decision to fund extra places in nurseries. It is a cynical anti family policy that wrenches babies from their mother’s arms to force the former back to work in the interest of the state and business and not the babies or mothers themselves
What care or consideration for those heroic same sex attracted people striving to live by the Gospel?
They are barely acknowledged and never encouraged. Cruel times.
@StAugHead
In what sense is it not respectful?
Catholics should be allowed to celebrate our contribution to English culture as much as the next person. Especially as we honour the monarch.
Would you have posted this if I noted, say, a Scottish contribution ?
Uk media are softening populace to accept suicide - repackaged as “assisted dying” to sound nice.
Be under no illusion. Reality will see greed of relatives, guilt, depression & institutional lack of care combine to create many evil outcomes. It will prove an ethical disaster.
I abhor racism & want to defeat it
I will not, however, jump on bandwagon and support BLM; it is an anarchist org whose clearly stated aim is to defund police, topple democracy and destroy nuclear family.
Why are so many happy to fund and support violent Marxist extremists?
June is the month of the Sacred Heart for Catholics. Special devotions will be offered at mass this morning and we shall thank God for the sanctity of marriage and pray for the family.
My main criticism with the noises coming from this Synod in Rome is that there seems so very little love for the faith as handed down by the apostles - and so much silly enthusiasm for the conclusions of the sexual revolution. Have they not seen the damage it has caused?
West has simple choice.
1. Return to Judeo-Christian faith that formed it (my hope)
2. Embrace sterile secular paganism in which people are routinely sacrificed for environmental ideology- euthanasia, etc
3. Islamic overthrow.
Birth rate favours 3 at present.
"We wish to make it clear that departure from the Church's teaching, or silence about it, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. Only what is true can ultimately be pastoral." - Pope BVXI
After scratching my head since before Christmas; the only reasons I can think of- as to why a bishop has not yet spoken out in condemnation of fidulcis supplicans is:
1: they are a coward
2: they are lavender
3: they value ambition more than faith
None is good enough!
2/2 I said we must stand together- distance ourselves from heretics- and hold the line. Our duty is to huddle in cold of ecclesial winter and keep the flame of faith alive“Say to them that are of a fearful heart: Be strong, fear not: behold your God will come and save you.”
@austeni
Those pagan statues had no place in a Christian house of worship. The blame lies with those modernists who are pushing syncretism and introduced them in the first place.
St John Fisher was not a victim of a tyrant, so much as a victim of the silence of his brother bishops who, knowing the devil was afoot, chose to do nothing due to cowardice and self interest.
Evil flourishes when good people do nothing..
The left speaks of “Easter worshippers” because it has invested too much in its divisive narrative of “minority groups suffering at hands of oppressive Christian patriarchs” to admit that, in fact, Christians are a persecuted group - more so than most others
@RichRaho
Straw man. Nobody criticised blessing homosexual people. Nobody.
What was criticised was blessing unions/couples.
So the similar argument would be bless the entrepreneur is fine. But don’t bless the exploitation. And all would agree!!
@FrEdwardBeck
Right or wrong- they can now reflect on the appropriateness of entering a sacred space plastered in symbol of a secular ideology at total odds with the teaching of the faith in all ages. Xtians are called 2 proclaim Gospel not the sexual revolution.
@LiamHalligan
@AllisonPearson
@Telegraph
When most media simply parroted government narratives Planet Normal actually did some journalistic research and dared to keep an open mind and seek the truth. It kept me sane in lockdown knowing I was not alone in wanting to question.
@churchofengland
They really don’t. You were founded in the reformation and are protestant. Why try and claim the pre reformation Catholic tradition as your own, given that your forebears ejected it by sword and tyranny? At least be honest
Watch Vatican make some stirring orthodox statements in coming weeks as damage limitation, time to appease the scandalised…just as long as the innovation is left in place. The rest can follow later…
Mary Magdalene was the first lay evangelist not some sort of feminine quasi apostle. Her task was to spread the good news of the resurrection not to act in any way sacramentally. Just getting that in before the usual suspects make her a poster girl for female ordination,
Should anyone trust a spouse who, having already been found to have been unfaithful, promised to lay off sex with kids but refused to discuss how much sex they have with other adults or be held accountable by anyone else? Asking for friends at a meeting in Rome...
Apparently spreading bad information is now an imprisonable offence.
Who remembers “Iraq has nuclear weapons” or govt assuring us vaccine was 95% effective and had zero risks?
Should establishment be worried? Or is this draconian anti free speech law only for little people?
white working class are not “far right” or even very political.
They are disaffected & angry because their concerns are ignored by sneering establishment/media
Out of control immigration affects their jobs/communities disproportionately.
We need to listen not demonise
Have I got this right?
If I sing nasty songs about Allah I will be imprisoned.
If I clamour for the eradication of Israelis “from the river to the sea” it will be absolutely fine.
Two tier? Looks like it to this priest that would do neither…
This virus is cunning. Not only does it strike kids at parties but not school. And after 10pm in pubs and not before. Now it seems, with Remembrance Day allowed but Mass banned, it strikes Christian worship but not civic occasions.
Good thing we have scientists to guide us!!?
The same sex aspect of the current crisis isn’t the issue- it’s the shift from scriptural fidelity to giving precedent to secular philosophy that’s the pressing issue.
The irony of the C of E announcing plans to bless gay couples during the week of Christian unity…an act that makes hopes of unity more remote. Not only with Orthodox and Catholics but it’s own membership!
Synod on Amazon is all smoke and mirrors. Give appearance of listening to a different culture all the while peddling again the tired modernist agenda favoured, in truth, not by Amazonians but liberal westerners of the boomer generation.
immigration is a red herring- our church flourishes due to Christian immigrants who share our culture & faith.
The issue is multiculturalism; the twin assaults of radical Islam & woke new religion of Marxist elites.
Both want to kill off trad. Christian culture & replace it
Standing room only for Ash Wednesday Mass.
Just crunched the stats - attendance at st Anselm’s is up 160% since the ordinariate arrived in 2011 and still rising. Praise be to God!
Strange how Anglo-Catholic clergy, who turned down gracious offer of the ordinariate to remain in a liberalised Protestant body, are all over social media -like giggly school girls -because they celebrated a non Catholic “Mass” at st John Lateran Talk about cognitive dissonance
The attack on Amy Coney Barrett - for having a large family- only strengthens claims that the modern left have, in fact, abandoned true ‘leftism’ in favour of an anti family, anti marriage, anti faith, anti life polemic
@ctrlamb
If this is the magic pill why did Anglicanism massive decline in number after doing precisely this?
Also why don’t you become Anglican when they embrace all you desire?
Why is Peter Tatchell not on the sex offenders register and why is his voice so prominent when he defends pedophilia? Our society is so sick and so are these abhorrent views.
Meanwhile Kate Forbes get’s grief for belief in Christ. Everything on its head in our culture
@frstevenhilton
Eh? Marriage - unlike this supposed blessing - is an ancient Christian sacrament. Furthermore the Catholic Church has always had married priests in rites outside the Latin. Even there it’s a matter of discipline not doctrine- hence I can be. Educate yourself!
It was an honour to be on
@calvinrobinson
excellent programme today. Fast forward to 52 minutes for my bit- a little rushed as time ran out but I tried to champion marriage and the family as best as possible
The one thing I want to return to normal ASAP is the end of horrid face masks. I detest them, I am not convinced they help much, I think they are terrible for the environment, I think they dehumanise us. I hate them.
Rant over!
Medics gobsmacked; Dad fighting back heroically. kidney function back to normal and being weaned off oxygen. still too weak for proper Investigation- but it was septic shock so likely to be some. A day at a time but out of immediate danger. Thanks for prayers- they are working!
@johncosgrove405
Where is the spite?
As a former Anglican whose family are mainly still Anglican I prefer to focus on unity.
That doesn’t mean we should not take a pride in our historic and cultural gifts.
The Archbishop of Southwark is getting heat for banning a homosexual author from speaking at a Catholic school. Read this exert from the author- a blasphemous parody of the Lord’s Prayer - before piling in on the bishop. His decision was sound and I salute his stance
@AFertileHeart
@ace_kids10
Here - does he think this is suitable for promoting in the school? It’s by the Simon James Green whose visit was cancelled.
It’s an offensive gay parody of the Lords Prayer - and he’s shocked a Catholic school would object?
If two people write sections of one book it is, by definition, co authored. This is not a matter of opinion but objective fact. That it is even being debated then merely underlines the chaos of modernist argument; the cancerous shift from reason & truth to sentiment & polemic
Pray today for Cardinal Zen - scandalously on trial in Hong Kong for standing up for freedom and truth. He is another victim of an ecclesial hierarchy that ever values pragmatism over principle.
It’s unacceptable for GP surgeries to expect elderly people to shift from phone appointments to app only.
My mother cannot cope with even basic tech. It’s a form of elder abuse.
just shy of 50 children at Easter mass- which isn’t counting adults. This is a few of them before Our Lady for the ‘Maria Consolata’ devotion. This Holy Week has made clear a need for a bigger church building for St Anselm’s in Pembury
@KonstantinKisin
@SwipeWright
@BillyM2k
The crisis in West is spiritual. The decision to discard Judeo-Christian foundations had serious unseen consequences now being felt. Wokeism is an attempt at religion without God but lacks mercy and truth. Dostoevsky warned ‘without God we can neither flourish nor be free’
those promoting euthanasia ought to spend a year taking funerals. Then they would see first hand the greed, lack of compassion, manipulation and downright nastiness that people can be guilty of when an inheritance is at stake. Society must avoid at all costs
Dad’s English understatement: underlying cancer & sarcoidosis, sepsis & uti, now double pneumonia and laboured breathing (test underway) and blood pressure down to 40 from 120...not expected to make it. Regains consciousness and rings me to say “I wasn’t too well yesterday!”
@Where_Peter_is
So lacking in love as to make this article abrasive- like a clashing cymbal or noisy gong.
Go to confession and turn away from political ideology masquerading as theology.
No mass - in which Christ is made present- can be negative. The very notion is blasphemy.
As regards schismatic behaviour within the German church:
1: silence of Pope is deafening
2: silence of the bishops is deafening
“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them” James 4:17
I think vespers/evensong in Vatican was good idea.
I think allowing Anglican ‘Eucharist’ in Roman vestments an awful idea and suggests indifferentism, so too “commissioning” of bishops from both communions.
Anglicans should have kept Eucharistic worship in Anglican centre
Could churches not open immediately for private prayer. And organise mass for socially distanced congregation- booked via slots on internet. 20 at a time in small church more in big - and drop Sunday obligation - over a week most people could make one safely.
Why is there so much shrill panic about how Kate Forbes faith might impact her leadership but never similar concerns about how the beliefs of atheistic anti family secualr ideologies might impact society and their leadership?
“We will all have to become accustomed to accepting the fact that, if a priest gives this type of simple blessings, he is not a heretic, he is not ratifying anything nor is he denying Catholic doctrine,” write DDF prefect +Fernández and Secretary +Matteo.
The real crisis in the church, and invariably its dysfunctional synod, is a deep crisis of masculinity. Instead of Fathers in God to act as shepherds- we have beta bishops too timid to defend the Truth and the people of God; hence the wolves run free…
I find it very sad that the football league has scheduled a full programme of matches at 3pm on Good Friday.
Is nothing sacred anymore?
Shouldn’t Christian players be enabled to worship on such a profoundly important day? And at the hour Jesus was crucified?
Do I have this right?
Britain’s police officers are now being assaulted, by a crowd risking the nation’s health in ignoring distancing, for a crime those police didn’t commit in a nation they do not even police whose race issues are, in any case, not remotely comparable.
@giles_fraser
There is a lovely story that Archbishop Ramsey once got into a pulpit & found a slip of paper that simply read “bastard”
Without batting an eyelid he said “I have often received unsigned mail but this is the first time I had a signature but no letter!’ Then he preached 😄
@CharlesFazacker
@colinbrazierGBN
That’s a nice idea. In the reality I live in billions was taken from tax payers not for services and welfare but for elites charging thousands per hour for things like track and trace. Single biggest robbery in history
