So much chatter about the Pope resigning. That’s not the norm. Or the custom. Or what I think will happen. It is, in some ways, part of the Petrine office and ministry to teach us how to die. And I think, in these days of watching & worrying about Pope Francis, we have the

I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!

Today marked the Dedication of a new Chapel at KwaThintwa School for the Deaf at Inchanga, west of Durban. Landmark occasion for school founded by late Archbishop Denis Hurley OMI, after a little deaf boy tugged at his cassock in an attempt to communicate with him. Lovely legacy!

Another great African, a man of dignity, a courageous Church Leader who stood up for his people, but in a quiet and dignified way! May he rest in peace, with his Lord who he served so faithfully!

A most interesting contrast in the setting of two recent pastoral visits by Pope Francis: In East Timor 660000 - half the Catholic population was present at the papal Mass, in Brussels 40 000 out of a Catholic population of several millions! Why? East Timor knows it needs God!

It’s absolutely tragic and heartbreaking that the only women who have made it this far in a presidential election are obsessed with defending the killing of babies. As a woman, I’m ashamed.

In his very 1st homily as Pope, even before his inauguration Pope Francis gave this basic teaching on Discipleship: “A true Disciple is one who walks with Jesus; Who builds up the Church by his Faith & good Works; And witnesses to Jesus before those who don’t know him.”

Paris Olympic Games have set us a giant sized conundrum, a multitude baying for Pope Francis to condemn of the utterly offensive Opening Ceremony, on the one side, and utter refusal to follow his teaching on the other! Crazy, crazy world we live in!

Pen picture of St Athanasius presents him as fighting vigorously against the heresy of Arianism, which denies the divinity of the Son, thus the Trinity. He was severely persecuted for trying to separate the Faith from the dominant ideology of his time! So much like St Francis!
