Back in the 12th century, French sculptor Gislebertus carved this angel as (s)he appears to the three Magi as they dream, waking one with the delicate touch of a finger, and pointing her other forefinger toward the Bethlehem star (Cathedral of St Lazare, Autun)

The powers attending the Locarno Conference agree that every country in Europe will generally reduce its armaments in order to admit Germany to the League of Nations and prevent another world war.

Farewell to Diane Keaton, who brought a new. awakening rhythm to every performance she gave, with cadences, inflections and reactions that hadn't been seen in American film. Her charm and her style were original; her emotions ran deep. This will feel personal to many people.

We replaced the re-gilded French 18th century frame with a newly acquired Dutch 17th century burr walnut and ripple moulding frame on Gerhard ter Borch’s interior of a Woman playing a Lute. The difference is that we now look into rather than at the room.

Sometimes, homely objects from the past are far more evocative than possessions of the powerful rich ~ here, from Egypt 1,400 years ago, this design on a child’s linen tunic, woven with pink, blue & green ducks, flower petals & central animal face https://t.co/vDHGTReQtl

On the 81st Anniversary of Operation Market Garden, I'm posting this image of a British Army motorcycle despatch rider, being carried into battle on a Airspeed Horsa glider. The motorbike is a Matchless G3L, I believe.

Absurdly late to The Party: Finally watched ‘The Death of Stalin’. As funny, bewitching & important as ‘Dr. Strangelove’. Such clowning blends horror and comedy into incandescent illumination. The acting most obviously, yet all departments are hair-pinning on all cylinders. Wow.
