Recently @josephweirdness wrote about how Shibata/Okada was the formerβs Icarus moment β flying too close to the sun. I personally think the same metaphor/comparison can be applied to Naito and this specific G1.
I love this match but I think the further we get away from it the more obvious it becomes that it, and this whole tournament, completely destroyed Naito.

2015 vs. Today. I wish I could tell this chubby cheeked little so & so that it's all (for the most part) gonna be okay. Wish I could tell him he's gonna have an eventful decade but will make some of the best friends he ever made and achieve so much of what he always wanted.
