Tactical Analysis: West Ham 1-5 Chelsea. Despite a shock start to the match, the Blues launched a quick comeback win to hammer West Ham for five and seal all three points. In this thread, I will analyse the tactics and break down the key moments of the London Derby. Let's dive

Enjoyed this video. The main takeaway at the end of it, for me, comes back to something I've previously discussed, and so has many other analysts. There are so many managers that do not maximize the quality of the talents they have but try to implement a tactical system that the.

In this example, City are just tremendously disorganized. On Spurs' right side, City have actually matched them. But lack of organization + intensity was poor. Offside here but you can see the route Spurs are trying to go.

Also, look at how City's frontline pressers aren't intense enough in the above clip. They're far off it.

Here's an example of Spurs easily finding the free man, who has time to drive up a bit, and pick his pass. Frank wanted his team, once they beat the City press, to attack quickly against the high line.

Interesting thing is that, in the City-Spurs match, we've seen how Frank wants to exploit this weakness. Jon said in The Athletic's last video - "The logic is, it's harder to generate from the wider areas than it is through the middle. The big question is, what happens in the.

Now we're seeing teams (e.g. Man City as I explained in our show today) preferring to push these weaknesses out wide again because they're much less threatening if they are accessed there.

Bundesliga is back and Bayern started it with a bang. I analyse their 6-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the article below for @BetweenThePosts. Werner has a lot of work to do with Leipzig, especially out-of-possession.

New season, same issues for Guardiola's City?. A passive frontline press + high defensive line whilst using the mid-block did not work for them last season. The post below is from the Brighton match where this was thoroughly exploited. However, Guardiola seems to be willing to

Playing with a passive mid-block + high defensive line is always risky against teams like Brighton who are capable of exploiting the space in-behind. It takes a very well-oiled defensive machine like an Aston Villa to pull it off well regularly. City have not played like this

This was a pretty interesting goal kick routine by City. Haaland pulled deep to drag Romero - creating space between the lines. Trafford then targets this space with his goal kick whilst Marmoush simultaneously attacks this space to win the second ball/flick. Haaland gets the

As usual, I'm never against a manager trying out a certain system and taking risks in certain ways. That's fine. I just try to think about whether it suits the group of players that they have or not. The players they have in the rest defense position, at center-back and in.

This is what I tried to show using the tactics board. The rest defense just looks so unlike Guardiola, for me.

An aspect of Chelsea's performance that I wasn't super pleased with was the defensive side. The high press was decent. Chelsea had their usual hybrid press with the fullback jumping to make it man-man. West Ham managed to play through only few times. There was only one.

When West Ham had the ball, their 3-2-5 shape, and specifically the movement of the frontline, caused Chelsea's press problems. Maresca's approach was to have the wingers press the West Ham wide center-backs, Pedro and Fernandez locking Ward-Prowse and Soucek, whilst Caicedo

I've spoken before about how I judge the potential of a young player - the ability for them to make up their mind on what they want to do + decision-making is high up. That's what separates the top young talents. Technical ability is of course a given. Without that, you can't be.

Estevao's assist for Fernandez was a great example of why Chelsea fans are excited. There's clarity to his actions and what he's trying to do. Seems like a very dynamic attacker and when he's got the ball, it just always feels like he create something.

Absolutely love how Chelsea fans are getting behind Estevao. Since that friendly against Leverkusen, every time he gets on the ball or tries something, it's just encouragement and excitement. Love to see it.

Guardiola surely has nightmares about Frank. Always causes him some trouble. Even when he was at Brentford.
