If you're below a certain age you might not remember how stupid it was when The DaVinci Code was first getting huge. Coworkers and classmates would tell you they had lost their Catholic faith because of the massive coverup "revealed" in this book

@WholeMarsBlog This story is not correct. Jobs did in fact make this argument but Larry did not need to spend weeks optimizing to double the speed of the boot. All he had to do is flip a debug switch off in the code. Larry tired to explain this to Steve but Steve would not listen, he was too

Want to have fun with the kids? Try Stellarium Mobile. It’s a free star map app that’s very useful for identifying stars and planets in the night sky. If you have a good telescope, you can use this app to position your setup and capture photos of celestial bodies with the kids.

It would be mistaken to say companies like Pratt and Whitney have not innovated on jet engine design in the last 70+ years of making them. For example, 13 years ago they added this single gear between the compressor stage and turbofan at a program cost of only $10 billion. 🧵

Industrial civilization requires a minimum of 11x return-on-energy invested (eROI). eROI of biofuels is ~3.2 - 3.9 Biofuels are literally the road to serfdom, and by that I mean medieval-era poverty and squalor.
