It's so useful to write down your ideas about art, I really recommend it, anything from technique, composition, style, the actual ideas you want to express, etc. It's easy to forget these things the more knowledge you accrue, especially since their often amorphous.

I'm reminded of a study I read about where sets of very abstract pictures were shown to infants, the infants spent considerably more time looking at the face-like images, showcasing how hardwired this quality is. Explains stuff like pareidolia too. They were shown pics like this:
It's fascinating how any small change you make when painting a face actually creates a massive change in expression and structure, especially the eyes. Just goes to show how sensitive our brain and vision are to the human face--give special attention when painting it.

There's often something ominous about those old darkened Madonnas, tried to get that feeling across here.

The festoons were kind of a hell to study with a pen, but it has its benefits

And what I mean by matching it together with your actual artworks is that if for example you're drawing a portrait, you could practice by making a preparatory drawing of it, or alternatively you could practice by studying the anatomy of the face and neck.
@ElMetallico1 Definitely, once you've attained a certain level of proficiency it becomes second nature and is incredibly easy to get back to if you've stopped. With practice I've realised that you should match it together with your actual artworks, and not separate the two

It's very true when it comes to the eyes and face in general. Very easy to change the entire demeanour of a face with just a few small changes.

It's important then to learn to identify these aspects of your own work that are convincing and really capture what you're trying to convey, understand why they work and what needs to be kept, especially once you've gotten a sketch you're satisfied with.

An interesting thing I noticed, particularly when it comes to drawing from imagination and design/invention in general, is that it's very easy to lose the essence of what you're making (the soul of it if you like) once you start polishing and adding more detail.

For Swordtember. Like the sword from last year there's no theme I'm following here, just doing whatever comes to mind.
