The combination of several #biochemical and #genetics techniques allowed us to identify ALDH3A2, an enzyme co-opted from an original function in the detoxification of aldehydes,.as a regulator for the bright reds and yellows in parrots.🖌️ @joana_gcc

The dusky lory is a parrot native to New Guinea, with red and yellow morphs that coexist in nature.We leveraged this extremely rare phenomenon to identify an enzyme responsible for modulating the expression of parrot-specific red and yellow #pigments -psittacofulvins
