Start with conservative oil price assumptions. Budgeting on high commodity prices is the fiscal equivalent of drinking on the forecast we can’t afford that.

Credit to @PCPartyNL for some early fiscal restraint, but if the deficit can’t be eliminated immediately, we need a clear roadmap with real targets.

That leaves roughly $300M from the 2025 budget still to be borrowed this fiscal year.

Borrowing costs are on the rise. About ~3% higher for the same bond, same issue date.

Interesting update in the @GovNL bond portfolio this week. A bond issued in December has only now appeared in the database — same issue date as a previous tranche. Odd delay 🧵👇

Latest $800M bond issue from Gov of NL was updated this week. First time since August. Interesting rates continue to creep higher from previous offers.

This seems like something that should get more attention in #nlpoli circles. Labrador has, and will have, serious strategic significance.

Interesting podcast on the upcoming federal budget. Relevant to #nlpoli is the discussion on the trend for governments to list what should seemingly be expenses as capital investments, make deficits appear much lower than they actually are. https://t.co/WtmSo4r4Ef

Coincidental I'm sure, and long overdue for this stretch of road. But there's something very #nlpoli about seeing this in front of the house on Advance Poll Day.

Some new bond info for Gov NL updated today. $2.6B borrowed so far on the fiscal year, seems our rates are creeping up on 10 year, which I'd have to think is expected given our level of borrowing.

If you were trying to foster and grow a connection between the larger community and your institution, it seems like cutting the Harris Centre and Office of Public Engagement wouldn't be where you'd start to find savings. Really says a lot about Leadership's understanding.

I find it really surprising that this didn't spark more debate in the province. Especially as NL, historically, has relied on trade, foreign and domestic, for a large part of its economy. Seems to be a silent consensus on the issue.

Interesting convo on The Gathering Place FB page. What responsibility do shelters have, not just to clients, but to the surrounding community relating to crime and drug use in the neighbourhood? How do we balance care and accountability? How do we define success?

Our Liberal Finance Minister is tied for worst in the country. With per person debt soaring to the nation's highest, the interest payments alone exceed $1 billion. The Liberals' reckless spending must stop. A PC government will lower costs and make life more affordable—for all
