Sad passing of my dear uncle Johnny. A staunch campaigner for a university in Derry City, Johnny also secured the Bloody Sunday civil rights banner for history in 1972.

Prof Harvey is my cousin - interest declared. A man of integrity with no party political allegiance, he has been concerned at the failure to enact rights legislation agreed in the GFA. Brian Feeney highlights unionist attempts to silence Colin on his right to express an opinion.
Hi
@JoannaLumleyUK
, you visited Richard Moore’s childhood home in Derry today. Newsworthy fact - my cousin Joe McKane and his son Odhran, who now live there, dived into the River Foyle on the same day, 2 years apart, to rescue drowning people on August 1st.
@McKaneDJ
UL straddles the border between Limerick and Clare, it’s success over 50 years has been transformational. No reason why Derry/Donegal can’t adapt to this model!

UL aims for multinationals and marina as it unveils ‘university town’ plan
On this the 51st anniversary of Bloody Sunday, thinking of all the victims and their families, especially Fr Tom O’Gara who assisted the injured and our good friend Eibhlin, a volunteer with the Knights of Malta, who saved lives in Glenfada Park.

Just bought the Clare Champion for its superb local journalism, often taken for granted by a generation weaned on social media. One of the few independently owned papers, the Champion offers trusted information on issues relevant to our local community.
Wishing

Fair play to
@McKaneDJ
for the poll, it seems to me that the first principle of GFA is don’t rock the boat. After 61 years, c’mon Derry you can do better, rock the boat, elect a Derry University candidate next year and confront those who are holding back progress.
@GAHargan
When we first moved to Clare, Limerick City was neglected but the city benefited from the vision of Dr Ed Walsh, who steered UL on a path as a modern European university. As a Derryman who once attended Magee, it pains me to see that our city’s potential continues to be stymied.
Had a great time taking this for the

The differentials are truly astonishing yet unsurprising. The northwest, on both sides of the border, has not benefited from the peace accord or the ‘Belfast Agreement’ as it is more aptly known. Seems that the Stormont of 2021 hasn’t changed much in 60 years or more.
As 2019 draws to a close we're almost ready to hand over this world-class facility to

. Prior to resurfacing we carried out a PST Base site survey to assess the condition of the existing subbase. Phase 2 saw the installation of 6,000sq/m of SUPERB 60 carpet & shock pad.

Sorry to see you in the line of fire as a result of Hoey’s incendiary remarks. You were brought up in very humble circumstances and worked extremely hard to achieve what you now have. Expressing solidarity to you Colin from myself and our extended family.
@cjhumanrights
As you well know Colin demands for a university in Derry predate the Civil Rights campaign, thankfully the
@derry_group
is keeping the flame lit. More than 60 years on Stormont remains rooted in this historic systemic and structural discrimination.
New: Fine Gael TDs will vote at their party meeting tonight on a cross-border university in honour of John Hume. Would include Derry city's Magee campus of Ulster Uni, Letterkenny and Sligo Institutes of Technology and North West Regional College.

Very proud of the ‘wee’ cousin. Remarkably his son Odhrán saved another man from the Foyle 2 years ago! “This story should be about making sure people get the mental health help and support they need,” said Joe humbly.

! That’s not Mooghaun - it’s Doonagore Castle 40km away. Mooghaun’s a magical wooded place, free to visit and all are welcome. Don’t come looking for treasure but in the unlikely event that you find any (you won’t) - it belongs to the people of Ireland.

means well, but it’s obvious that

is focussed on Belfast not on providing a transformative campus for the NW border region. A new institution under the auspices of the National University of Ireland should be his focus.

Sorry to learn Rory is retiring as he is one of the fairest refs in the country and always has a good rapport with players. I think the GAA could follow rugby’s example by instilling respect for referees from an early age.

UL is strategically sited in 2 counties, straddling the border of Limerick & Clare. A new independent uni in the NW could be built on a greenfield site on the Derry-Donegal border to maximise resource opportunities.
If Derry/Strabane Council is serious about the long-term economic development of the region, it will insist on using this money to establish its own independent university for the North West.
@GAHargan
Limerick has certainly surpassed Derry in population size. I have seen the city’s transformation and massive growth from investment in 3rd level education at UL, LIT, (now TUS Midwest) and Mary Immaculate College. Limerick’s student population alone now stands at more than 34,000

My uncle Johnny and cousin Brian pictured with the banner which fronted the Civil Rights March on January 30th 1972, Derry’s Bloody Sunday. Johnny rescued the blood-stained banner after it was used to cover the lifeless body of Barney McGuigan, the last person murdered that day.
"It could have been anyone that day..."
The photo is My father and brother with the banner that was carried at the front of the Civil Rights march on Derry's Bloody Sunday. The banner was soaked in the blood of one of the victims, Barney McGuigan.
