Father: I look at your lawn and all I see is a carpet of weeds. Me: Well all my three-year-old daughter sees is a carpet of wishes. Father: 😳 Me: 😎 #nomowmay #changeyourperspective

We’ll, that’s it folks. Over six years have flown by and it’s been a pleasure looking after #Walthamstowmarshes. I now move on to new pastures but will miss being part of the ranger service here at @LeeValleyPark. A big thank you to my colleagues everyone who supported our work

Big thanks to our local group @LBCV_London who helped finish off some coppicing for us at Horse Shoe Thicket woodland and built a dead hedge to help protect some of the regenerating wood from damage. Great work guys! #Walthamstowmarshes

We slubbed out more of the ditch this week, preventing them from drying out & helping to provide valuable open water habitat for wildlife. We also cut back more of the large bramble patches on the North Marsh which have been encroaching onto the meadows. #Walthamstowmarshes

It was nice to have the team out helping today. Great bunch! We coppiced another section of Horse Shoe Thicket getting it ready for next year. Great for #biodiversity #Walthamstowmarshes @LeeValleyPark

It’s that time of the year when evenings start getting dark. Be safe, don’t forget to light up that bike. We rangers take this stuff serious 😂#Walthamstowmarshes @LeeValleyPark

More volunteer work today unclogging ponds & clearing vegetation around the fences. We also checked our mink monitoring rafts and took some more cuttings of our rare Creeping Marshwort to grow on & replant next year #Walthamstowmarshes

Great effort by our #volunteers today on #Walthamstowmarshes. Cleared reed from the old pond, pollarded willows, repaired fencing, gathered willow from ditches, checked mink monitoring rafts, litter-picked & cleared fly tip, checked cattle, welcomed 2 new vols & ate donuts 👍👏

Our Hereford’s are settling in nicely to the North Marsh on #Walthamstowmarshes They’ll remain here until November then move north to Patty Pool Mead. Please remember, to keep a distance and keep moving past cattle if you have a dog with you.

A bit of pond work today on #Walthamstowmarshes with volunteer Richard. Common Reedmace, left to it’s own devices quickly spreads & chokes water bodies if not kept in check. Maintaining enough openwater allows other aquatic plants & wildlife to use it. Smelly but satisfying 😬

The hot weather today didn’t scare off these volunteers. We’re beating back encroaching bramble along the borders of the meadows. After the meadows are cut for hay these borders will provide overwintering refugia for insects.
