Where the line should be drawn is countries where the harm of them participating clearly outweighs the benefit - e.g. Israel, Russia. You have to consider these things in the round. In my opinion Hungary, Turkey and Kazakhstan participating are net positives.

Eurovision by nature is a cultural weapon and promotional tool for liberal values, including if/when it is broadcast in places governed by illiberal regimes. This, incidentally, is part of why returning Hungary and Turkey would be a good thing!.

Democratic backsliding and authoritarian regimes have been a problem in Eurovision for years and years, but if you're applying that standard here you need to apply it to Georgia, Hungary and Turkey at least. And *none* of these countries fit into the same category as Israel/AZ.

Keep seeing on the tl that Kazakhstan in Eurovision would be some kind of way back in for Russia, which is nonsense. Kazakhstan is not an extension of Russia, obviously. and *every* entry they sent to Junior Eurovision was sung in Kazakh and written by Kazakhs.

As Europe's political mood continues to turn against Israel, so will the EBU and Eurovision. The EBU's position is a mirror of its members - and by extension, a mirror of the states those members represent. Little by little, they're getting closer to the exit door.
📡 Ynet reports that Israel's future #Eurovision participation was discussed at today's EBU General Assembly. In the end, no vote was held on Israel's participation in the contest. "Had one taken place, the majority would likely have voted against Israel," EBU sources report.
