After #xylazine identification, PWUD engaged in seemingly protective behaviors like increased stimulant use to prevent sedation & human testing for potency - which can cause unintended harms. ➡️Takeaway: Need to scale-up robust #harmreduction education, drug checking access ASAP.

After IDing #xylazine in drug supply, PWUD said they: .-Altered consumption routes, ⬇️drug use, relied on peers' to protect themselves.-Some ppl preferred xylazine-adulterated opioids.➡️Takeaway: #SSPs play impt role educating about #harmreduction, IDing changing drug supply.

Different groups ID'd xylazine at diff times in diff ways. PWUD: 2022, identified tranq like substance, intense sedation, wounds. SSP Staff: medical cases, professional societies, news outlets.➡️Takeaway: #SSP staff & clients need additional educational resources about xylazine.
