After a wildfire, burned soil can repel water. As a result, less rainfall is required for flash flooding in areas where wildfires have recently burned. If you live in one of these areas, and heavy rain is in the forecast, plan in advance and move away from the area.

Today I had the opportunity to brief @Sec_Noem on the ongoing impacts of post-burn scar flooding here in Ruidoso. We have been working closely with @NMDHSEM and @fema on disaster efforts as we navigate intermittent responses amongst recovery.

Make no mistake! Predicting the future is hard! Weather forecasting is too! The science of meteorology lets us assess the atmosphere & how it will evolve over the next few hours & days. Signals in data let us know when changes in the atmosphere might take place. #NMwx

Strong wind gusts will continue tonight and into tomorrow, which will lead to areas of blowing dust, and continued critical fire weather conditions for eastern NM. Gusty winds and snowfall will create blizzard conditions early tomorrow morning in far northeastern NM. #nmwx

#Ruidoso, stay #emberaware over the next few days as we have critical fire weather in the area. Remember, Ready, Set, Go! Have a plan and stock up on emergency supplies.

Along with the risk for severe weather this weekend/next week, significant fire-weather appears likely. A strong dryline will support extremely dry and windy conditions over NM, TX and OK Sunday through Tuesday. Dangerous fire-weather conditions likely. https://t.co/QMmU4tCxt1

Today, @FCC announced new rules for cell carriers to enable public safety alerting authorities to issue silent Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs). This will likely save lives in times when making any noise is dangerous, like in an active shooter situation. #EMGTwitter

This is so perfectly written and I'm 100 percent in agreement with @spann regarding the invaluable service that NWS and NOAA provide on an hourly basis. Collectively they are one of, if not the best bang for your taxpayer buck out there.
