If there are statewide races featuring candidates you think deserve more scrutiny or coverage because of their past comments or behavior, please reach out.
Our stories on candidates in North Carolina have broken through. I bet there are others flying under the radar
NEW from
@kfile
and me: Amy Coney Barrett failed to disclose two talks she gave on Roe v. Wade in 2013 to anti-abortion student groups in her Senate paperwork
Barrett's failure to disclose the two events raises questions about whether the questionnaire is complete or whether there will be any consequences from the Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees her confirmation hearing.
Her hearing is slated for Monday.
NEW from me: An Ohio-based political group is sending mail-in ballot applications with misinformation on Biden to voters in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, two key battleground states for the 2020 election.
NEW from me &
@KFILE
--Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene indicated support to execute prominent Democratic politicians, including Pelosi, Obama, Clinton, Kerry, & FBI agents.
One comment she liked said, "a bullet to the head would be quicker” to remove Pelosi
NEW from me: Jenna Ellis, a senior lawyer to the Trump campaign, has frequently criticized mail-in ballots and voting by mail but she voted by mail 3 times in 2012, 2013 and 2014, according to public records.
NEW from
@KFILE
and me: Senate Dems sent another letter asking about the missing material from Any Coney Barrett’s Senate paperwork on the eve of her confirmation hearing
We found that video for that lecture was advertised by the school as being available on YouTube. But the video was removed by the user in 2014.
Of 11 lectures publicized as available to watch on the school's event, only Barrett's was removed.
NEW from
@kfile
and me: A close ally of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene among those in the Capitol mob on 1/6.
"A message was sent," said Anthony Aguero, a conservative activist who said on video he was able to make it in the chambers.
NEW: A Trump appointee serving on West Point's advisory board has repeatedly spread a conspiracy that the Biden administration is bringing in non-White immigrants "grand plan" to outnumber White Americans of European ancestry in the United States.
More
@RepMTG
: "If it weren't for the Facebook posts or comments that I liked in 2018, I wouldn't be standing here" . . . In late 2018, it became clear "misinformation, lies, things that were not true in these Q-anon posts were not true, I stopped believing it."
NEW from me &
@KFILE
: Trump's pick to become the US ambassador to Germany, retired Col. Douglas Macgregor, demonized refugees in Germany as "unwanted Muslim invaders." He advocated to enact martial law on the US-Mexico border and "shoot people" as needed.
Both undisclosed talks were from 2013, commemorating the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
The first--held in April 2013--was entitled "Being a Woman After Roe."
The second talk--held in November 2013-- was entitled 'The Supreme Court's Abortion Jurisprudence."
In many since-deleted videos saved by CNN's KFile, Greene repeatedly calls Aguero "amazing" and a "friend." On social media, Aguero has called Greene "one of my closest friends."
They attended a number of pro-Trump causes and worked together closely.
NEW:
@KFILE
and I wrote about Elizabeth Warren's first law review article from 1975 in which she criticized a SCOTUS ruling that made it easier to stop busing in Northern cities.
We don't know what she said in those previously unreported and undisclosed talks.
But that year she did disclose another talk called "Roe at 40: The Supreme Court, Abortion, and the Culture War that Followed." This is where it gets even MORE interesting
Love that Katie Miller--wife to Stephen Miller, unmoved by child separation at the border, hardliner on immigration--is suddenly against barriers and fortresses.
"The two camps were split over whether to erect a plexiglass barrier… Harris' campaign supported it, Pence's opposed it.
'If Sen. Harris wants to use a fortress around herself, have at it,' said Katie Miller, a Pence spokeswoman."
A Notre Dame spokesperson said they had "no information on what has become of the video of that lecture."
To be clear, the lecture was previously written up by student publications. But the full lecture is now lost.
We dug into Rep. Paul Gosar's ties to extremism after he appeared via video at the white nationalist conference last weekend.
Unlike his colleagues, Gosar's ties to extremists have received less attention, despite a longer history of associating w/them
NEW: The Biden admin told 11 Trump appointees to military academy advisory boards--aka the boards of West Point, the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy--to resign by tonight or be dismissed
The appointees include Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer & more
Also, Barrett was a member of the University Faculty for Life group at Notre Dame.
In 2016, the group unanimously passed a resolution for a letter calling on the university to rescind an award given to then-Vice President Biden because of his beliefs on abortion.
You said that laws that criminalize same-sex sexual activity are “very moral” and that same-sex marriage would lead to legalized pedophilia and bestiality.
How is that not anti-gay? How did we get it wrong by reporting what you said, verbatim?
NEW from me &
@KFILE
:
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro publicly said Americans had "nothing to worry about" as he privately warned the White House about a "full-blown" pandemic in two memos.
NEW from me and
@KFILE
:
Mike Bloomberg said at a private event in 2016 that his presidential campaign platform would have been to "defend the banks" and that the progressive movement is "just as scary" as the growing far right
"We were all there. It was not Antifa and it was not BLM. It was Trump supporters that did that yesterday. I'm the first to admit it, being one myself," said Anthony Aguero, a friend and ally of Greene's, in a video posted on January 7, 2021.
Marge Greene tells Mike Lindell that J6 was really Anifa: “I was very upset. I never expected anything like that. And when it happened, I thought ‘this is Antifa.’ And no one can convince me it was so-called Trump supporters.”
Barrett says "yes" when Kamala Harris asks if she accepts COVID is infectious & smoking causes cancer but doesn't say if climate change is a threat, calling it a "contentious matter of public debate"
Harris: "You've made your point clear that you believe it's a debatable point"
Caught on a hot mic this week, leading GOP gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson said, "We’ve got [abortion] down to 12 weeks. The next goal is to get it down to 6, and then just keep moving from there."
NEW tonight: Our report on Mark Robinson, the leading North Carolina gubernatorial candidate who repeatedly voiced support for completely banning abortion without exceptions for rape or incest. He's called women who get abortions - even if just pregnant for 24 hours - murderers,…
Greene indicated support on her Facebook page in 2018 and 2019 before she ran for Congress.
In 2019, she started a petition to impeach House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In one speech promoting the petition, she said Pelosi will "suffer death or she'll be in prison" for her "treason."
NEW from me,
@kfile
and Drew Myers: Sen. Ron Johnson repeatedly insists that he is not a climate change denier.
But in early June at a luncheon, he said , "I don't know about you guys, but I think climate change is -- as Lord Monckton said -- bullsh*t."
Barrett's chambers did not respond to comment. A White House spox said Barrett "continues to be transparent" in her confirmation process and looks forward to her hearing.
NEW: Mark Finchem, the GOP nominee for Arizona secretary of state, kept a ‘Treason Watch List’ on Pinterest & shared conspiracies that the Mexican Army was making incursions into the US in preparation for a full-scale invasion
Greene replied, "Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off."
A White House spox said, "There is absolutely no place in public service for racism, for denigrating the contributions of women in the military, or for religious bigotry."
A White House official told CNN they are currently reviewing his seat on the board.
NEW from me and
@kfile
: Bernie Sanders said in 1994 that he agreed the country needed "some more jails" and that it must be "tougher in certain instances" on crime at a press conference he held supporting the 1994 crime bill.
I reached out to Pelosi's office for comment multiple times but they couldn't be reached.
Here's the story in its entirety. Please read it and take care
One last example (of which I found to be the most disturbing).
In one Facebook post, a commenter asked Greene, "Now do we get to hang them ?? Meaning H & O ???," referring to Obama and Hillary Clinton.
(continued)
@KFILE
I can’t comprehend how anyone could be so casually cruel to a grieving father, especially a person as good and decent as Andrew.
Fuck this guy and every other person who harasses and hurts you.
Greene, who portrays herself as a strong supporter of law enforcement officers, also suggested in Facebook posts that FBI agents disloyal to Trump were traitors & liked posts calling for them to be hanged.
That "treason" was supporting so-called sanctuary immigration policies. In fact, Greene said that Rep. Maxine Waters was "just as guilty of treason as Nancy Pelosi" for supporting those policies.
NEW from me,
@natemcdermott
and
@seekayhickey
: We wrote about the congressional candidates who have engaged with or spread the QAnon conspiracy theory.
Nearly 2 dozen are Republicans; one is an independent, another is a third-party candidate.
Elsewhere on her Facebook page, Greene liked comments that advocated to "arrest" Obama and former Secretary of State John Kerry & "HANG that bitch," referring to either Obama or Kerry or possibly both of them.
She also liked a comment that urged for "civil war 2.0" to begin.
RRR is one of the best times I've ever had watching a movie. Had no clue what was going to happen and I cannot believe how well directed it was. So many great sequences!!
Just a reminder--the seat on the board is presidentially appointed.
It's not immediately clear what can be done, but it illustrates an often overlooked (IMO) problem the Biden admin has: stomping out extremism and extremist hires/appointees from the Trump admin.
NEW: Jim Marchant, the GOP nominee for Nevada Secretary of State, wants to eliminate mail voting. But he voted by mail multiple times, most recently in the 2020 primary.
He also voted in Florida in 2006, 2008 & 2010 while living in Nevada 1/
The GOP nominee for Nevada Secretary of State wants to eliminate mail voting in the state. But a review of his public voting records shows he voted by mail multiple times—as recently as the 2020 primary—including voting in FL while living in NV
After we reached out for comment, Greene tried to get ahead of the story. She doesn't deny that she liked posts and replied to comments and she claims many people have run her Facebook page. She didn't specify which posts were from her vs staff
Fake News CNN is writing yet another hit piece on me focused on my time before running for political office.
I will never back down to the enemy of the American people and neither should you.
So
@kfile
and I wrote a story on Marjorie Taylor Greene's most dangerous conspiracy theories and comments.
There's some new reporting in here as well, plus reporting from the likes of Media Matters, NBC News & Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Buckle up.
NEW: GOP congressional candidate Joe Kent gave a previously unreported interview in June to a Nazi sympathizer and White nationalist, despite disavowing White nationalism last spring when one of its adherents endorsed him.
NEW from me,
@KFILE
@natemcdermott
and
@ZcohenCNN
: Retired general Anthony Tata, nominated to head the Pentagon’s policy shop, promoted a number of bogus conspiracy theories, including that the former CIA director sent a coded tweet to assassinate Trump
NEW--GOP candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene, poised to win a Georgia congressional seat this fall, spread debunked conspiracies that the deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in 2017 was an "inside job." She also said "Pizzagate" is real.
Ugh, sorry for the typo! That's gonna bug me.
Anyway, retired Army Col. Douglas Macgregor made the comments in April and May. He also attacked women serving in the military in combat roles.
In December, the Trump administration appointed to Macgregor to West Point's Board of Visitors. (Macgregor is an alum).
Macgregor's past comments were clearly at odds with West Point's attempts to grapple racism on campus and in its institutions.
This story is missing some pretty big context. Greene wasn't just removed from her committee assignments because of "incendiary" comments.
It's because she supported executing politicians & other political violence, including a post targeted at AOC.
NEW KFILE story: We examined 15 competitive races at various levels & found examples of Republicans shifting or downplaying their positions on abortion the SCOTUS 2022 Dobbs decision. Some examples are sharp; others subtle
It's interactive so take a look:
This isn't the first time we've reported on him. After he was nominated to become the US ambassador to Germany, we found that he disparaged Muslims, refugees and Germany's remembrance of the Holocaust. He called for martial law at the US-Mexico border.
Greene liked social media posts calling for Nancy Pelosi to be beaten and executed in 2019. She also said on video multiple times that Pelosi is a traitor and treason. is "a crime punishable by death."
Violence and crime are rampant in Joe Biden’s America. It shouldn’t happen to Paul Pelosi. It shouldn’t happen to innocent Americans. It shouldn’t happen to me. (Swatted six times, violence & death threats every day)

Mailers from the Common Sense Voters of America LLC were sent to Pa and Mn voters last month containing a mail-in ballot application.
It's unclear how many mailers were sent or if the mailers were only sent to these swing-state voters.
It's also unknown who is funding this.
NEW w/
@KFILE
: Michael Peroutka, the GOP nominee for Maryland AG, spread 9/11 conspiracies in 2006, questioning if 9/11 was the work of an "elite bureaucrat" who had demolition charges in every building in New York City
NEW from me, Drew Myers and
@kfile
: A top Florida RNC official spread conspiracies on far right social media about COVID-19 vaccines amid surging cases in the state, calling the vaccine a “mark of the beast”
The org lists a "virtual office" address on the mailers, but the group was registered as a 501c4 nonprofit in June by Christopher Finney, an Ohio lawyer.
Finney's law firm is currently representing Kanye West in a lawsuit against Ohio to get West on the November ballot.
NEW w/
@KFILE
: Online, "Matte Nox" flaunts a lavish lifestyle on his Instagram: partying w/models, driving his Porsche, buying Gucci rings.
In reality, he is Matthew Tunstall, the architect of two PACs that raised millions by impersonating Trump
Back to the mailers. In Pennsylvania, the mailer includes a legit mail-in ballot application on one side and skewed political messaging on the other.
Its election guide makes a litany of false claims against Democratic nominee Joe Biden's policy positions.
If you received a mail-in ballot application from Common Sense Voters of America LLC OR another third party org, I'd like to hear from you/see any photos.
Email in bio. /fin
NEW from me,
@KFILE
&
@natemcdermott
: Top Pentagon nominee Anthony Tata, a retired general, falsely called Obama a Muslim and “terrorist leader” and claimed Islam was the "most oppressive violent religion I know of" in several 2018 tweets
Some more bashing on Germany--Macgregor said Germans have a "sort of sick mentality" by recognizing and remembering its Nazi history.
He lamented that the nation focuses on "13 years of German history" & not the other 1500 years.
@RickGarnett
@ulrichlehner
@KFILE
Hi! I don't normally weigh in but this irked me. 1) neither of you, from my knowledge, were nominated for lifelong seats in public service that require you to disclose everything you've ever done or said. 2) we reported the undisclosed talks and said it raised qs. That's all
The Pa. mailers from Common Sense Voters of America LLC also includes a doctored image of Biden holding a Politico newspaper, claiming Biden supports sanctuary cities.
Politico confirmed they never ran this headline in print or on its website. (The other two clips are correct)
Hey! That refers to a story we did a couple weeks ago.
Rep. Jim Banks, head of the Republican Study Committee, organized a trip to the border where they were accompanied by an insurrectionist and posed for photos with him
A senior Dem aide familiar with caucus deliberations says “members were outraged with Bank’s statement on Monday. night and his border trip that included R member photos with someone who was a participant in the insurrection," source said.
Maybe it's just my timeline, but I'm seeing a lot of smugness over the WaPo newsroom/social media story.
I just want to point out that every newsroom I know of has the exact same problems and let's not pretend otherwise.
This is absolutely disgusting. The amount of vile, heartless attacks invoking Andrew’s daughter literally makes me sick. Neither Andrew nor Francesca deserves this. Who thinks this is OK?
F*ck that guy and any one else who thinks that is acceptable
@samstein
Lake has already said mail ballots should be illegal yet has promoted mail voting while running for governor.
She's also already questioned potential voter fraud in the weeks before yesterday's primary
Our reporting quashed his nomination, but he was then appointed as a senior adviser to the acting Defense Secretary.
Soon after, we reported that Macgregor said US support for Israel was the result of "Israeli lobby"
@yashar
The reason is that Mueller is rarely spotted publicly. He never once stepped outside of the SCO when media was present. Baristas at the local coffee shop by the SCO said he stopped coming in when CNN started showing up daily.
NEW w/
@kfile
: Herschel Walker was once a “partner” and “spokesman” for a subsidiary of an energy company, Just Energy—which was repeatedly targeted by states’ attorneys general and utility agencies over allegedly deceptive practices.
CNN's

@jeffzeleny
report that Rahm Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago, is being considered for Transportation Secretary.
Emanuel was in office when the Chicago police murdered Black teenager Laquan McDonald and tried to cover it up.
Macgregor did not respond to comment. The White House stood behind Macgregor.
Senate Foreign Relations Ranking Member
@SenatorMenendez
told CNN that Macgregor's comments make him unqualified to serve and urged Senate Republicans to reject his nom.
It is legal for third parties to send voters mail-in ballot applications, according to the Secretary of State offices, and you can use them if you'd like.
Just make sure it's correctly pre-addressed to your local county election office and that the application is legit.
In Minnesota, the mailers include an absentee ballot application and politically charged messaging. The mailer says "protect Minnesota from dangerous extremists" and "your vote will be the difference between broken extremism and Minnesota values."
Macgregor, a decorated Army combat veteran and frequent guest on Fox News, made numerous xenophobic and racist comments on radio/TV interviews.
He said Muslim refugees in Germany were "coming with the goal of eventually turning Europe into an Islamic state."

and me: Bloomberg said social security was a Ponzi scheme—worse than Bernie Madoff’s scheme—and compared it to a game of musical chairs. He also argued for cuts to entitlement programs.
1. SCOOP: In her forthcoming book, Melania Trump's former friend/advisor Stephanie Wolkoff says the First Lady made disparaging remarks about the president and his adult children.
Wolkoff taped some of her conversations with Mrs. Trump, sources tell me
This claim is extremely untrue. We found multiple instances in which he said he was a "Latino Jew" and half-Jeiwsh, and that he wanted to "fight for other Jewish people."
“I never claimed to be Jewish,” Santos said. “I said I was `Jew-ish.'”
George Santos, GOP congressman-elect, admits some lies and tries to spin others.
@JacobRubashkin
It’s possible—if she was there on 9/11–that she died of complications from cancer caused by the 9/11 attack. But the fact that he added more on that passage months later is odd. He added about his “Ukrainian heritage” months later too
He said on Russian state TV in 2014 that Eastern Ukrainians are Russian, which is against US/EU policy.
He also said the US was wrong to intervene against Serbian ethnic cleansing in Kosovo because the Serbs were "orthodox christians" and Kosovars were Muslims.
Tennis is the funniest sport. There’s an actual match going on one court, but Rafael Nadal is merely *practicing* on the adjacent court and now that’s what everyone is watching.
The GoFundMe organized by an "Anthony Zabrovsky" was taken down. We grabbed a screenshot before Santos took down his Facebook account. Also waiting to hear back from the org on why it was taken down

@KFILE
: Herschel Walker has claimed for years he was his high school class valedictorian and graduated in the "top one percent" at UGA.
But he famously never graduated from UGA. And there's no evidence that he was named valedictorian.
A little update: After this story's publication, Finchem removed the "Thought Provoking" board from his Pinterest account--which featured Nazi comparisons, conspiracy theories, etc.
The 'Treason Watch List' board, however, remains live.
NEW: Mark Finchem, the GOP nominee for Arizona secretary of state, kept a ‘Treason Watch List’ on Pinterest & shared conspiracies that the Mexican Army was making incursions into the US in preparation for a full-scale invasion
He bashed Germany's armed forces for seeming "more concerned about providing free services to millions of unwanted Muslim invaders, to be blunt, than it does about its own armed forces in the defense of its country."
He supports Trump's decision to withdrawal troops from Germany
@rgay
As we detailed in the story, Greene said multiple times that offices called security on them. Eventually they were escorted out.
But not before seeing Reps. Pelosi, Tlaib, Omar, Schiff, Ocasio-Cortez and Crenshaw.
